Sounds like the conservative judges are ignoring the constitution and being activists for religious imperialism.

It'll only last until other religions are told they can't have their prayers at gov't meetings, too. Then there'll be another court case etc.

Kagan Accuses Conservative Justices Of 'Blindness' To Secular Values

"Justice Elena Kagan argued Monday that the Supreme Court went "far astray" from constitutional principles when narrowly ruling that a New York town may begin its public meetings with a prayer that tends to be Christian."

"The town of Greece does not violate the First Amendment by opening its meetings with prayer that comports with our tradition.." Kennedy wrote, for the majority opinion.

Yes, as racism, xenophobia, slavery, child molestation.... obesity "comport with our tradition." He was relying on a 1983 judgment that mentioned that other famous constitutional phrase, "comports with the fabric of the nation" (that's from Article, erm... of the thingy, I think, you know).

Or maybe "fabric of the nation" refers to bloodstained cotton, or something.

Clarence Thomas would turn back the clock

Thomas made the case “that in his view the First Amendment religion clauses don’t apply to the states in the first place.”

    ^ This.

I can't wait until someone insists on Hindu prayers, or maybe some in Hebrew from an Orthodox rabbi. This decision will bite religionists and the court in the ass, and pretty soon.

It will also continue the steady rejection of religion by the rising generation. The religious whackos are killing religion.
