so I've attached a picture, I hope it's not too pornish, my question is, what type of excercises do you need to target that part of the glute? I'm not sure what's the name of that muscle...

    thanks in advance!!

Don't know the answer to your question. This video is for people recovering from injuries but the movement pattern is what we're talking about. How to isolate and engage that muscle? This could be done without the wall using body weight, raising and lowering the elevated leg. It could also probably be done using resistance either from a stretchy band, cable or an adductor machine.

Is it really possible to target the medius? I figure it's difficult/impossible without hitting the maximus as well.

not to ruin your thread BUT have you ever thought that the reason why the guy or woman's muscle areas might be looking like that is because they're sitting? obviously, there's a couch so that explains that. i don't know if that would look the same exact way if that person were standing.

no, that's fine... but I've seen pictures of guys standing and they have the muscle developed up to the lower back.

These are some pics that show what I mean:

I went from being completely flat, to actually have a butt by doing squats and lounges, my butt looks good now I got compliments from my gay friends, but now I want to go the extra mile and develop that part hehe icon_biggrin.gif

I can feel it there when I do these alternative exercises for the lower back. Get on your hands and knees. Extend a leg, lower it until your toes almost touch the floor, then raise it until it's a few inches above the horizontal. Repeat a hundred or so times. Then switch to the other leg. You may need ankle weights to get a good burn. If you bend your ankle and point your toes away you can lower your leg a bit more.

I say "alternative exercise" because what the physical therapist recommends is extending the leg straight out, holding it for a second or two, then bring it back under with the knee on the floor like the other leg is. That doesn't really do much for me.
