Background: To start off, I have anxiety and I'm extremely introverted. i also have trouble relating to other people. I'm about 23 year old and have never had any real life experience compared to my peers. I spent most of my teenager years locked in my room avoiding reality and my existence.

Currently my spirit is down right because I failed a job assessment test from wal-mart. I mean I try to give them the answers that they're looking for. I just want to know how can a person like me make it in this world. I really want advice and any tips. I can't go on like this.

" I try to give them the answers that they're looking for. "

An assessment isn't there to see if you can give people the answers that you think they're looking for. In fact, most of them are designed to catch people doing that and reveal them as dishonest.

It's better to go in and answer the assessment honestly, don't be afraid to say "I don't know" if you don't know something.

I know, being shut away, sometimes it's hard to "be yourself" because you really haven't had a lot of chances to get to know yourself, but giving up won't solve anything either, yeah?

Do your best to be yourself, to be honest, to be the person you want to be. Nobody can do -more- than their best, and nobody's perfect.

And remember man, you're not alone.

uh.... okay and yeah.... if you have homicidal/violent tendencies? Lying on the type of questions owl_bundy quotes above would be a good idea.

    Lie?
What kind of advice is that?
It will start with small things and then lies become bigger. It becomes out of control and before you know it lies become lies and you will fail.

icon_lol.gificon_lol.gificon_lol.gif how the hell do you fail a job assessment test from walmart or any store for that matter? icon_lol.gificon_lol.gificon_lol.gificon_lol.gif dude, all you gotta do is lie. you seriously answered "strongly agree" to a question like "i express my anger and am ready to fight when customers start arguing with me on the register". icon_eek.gif lie, motherfucker. honesty is not the right answer on an assessment test. if you got those answers wrong, you obviously don't get it or don't want to work. just because you're crazy doesn't mean you're stupid. lie your way to that job position and when you get there... stay there until you get fired for whatever reason so you can collect unemployment while looking for another job or until you find a better job where you can say "fuck walmart" and skippy on out of that bitch.

don't worry about what your peers or people your age are doing. plenty of people are just like you where their lives ain't all so glamorous.

For someone who claims to have had a hard life and emotional problems, you always resort to bullying when someone comes on here asking for help. What's that about?

Anxiety and social phobias are treatable. But left untreated they can really paralyze you and make the most basic tasks in life seem impossible. Do you know what your anxiety stems from? Did you experience abuse as a kid?

owl_bundy saidlol. are you guys REALLY trying to help him or see him unemployed and broke? i'm not telling him to go about his life lying. i'm basically telling him how to pass the assessment test. come on now. icon_lol.gif of course a job is not going to hire you if you're going to admit that you're a lousy worker. that's what the assessment test is about. he can get a job while dealing with his issues. having money will actually help him out because he can go to the doctor. you guys are trying to hold him back.

I try to give them the answers they want to hear. So I'm screwed either way. I guess I'm not good with doublespeak.

okay, if you did that, that doesn't mean that you failed the test then. they never tell you if you passed the test or not, anyway. the only way you'll know is if they don't call you back and that could be for any number of reasons. they might have the position filled, you might not have enough job experience, you might not live nearby, you might not be who they're looking for, job discrimination over whatever, and etc.

either way, like my brother and my friends tell me, don't worry about it. just keep applying to jobs until someone hollers @ you. that's just the way it is. i'm just like you, fam. i have anxiety and am an introverted guy myself where i'm an outcast. i have friends and all BUT i'm not someone who likes to be around people too much. however, life goes on and you still have to survive with your problems even if you're medicated or get diagnosed with a mental issue. the only alternative is to basically not do shit all day, stay at home and believe me, your problems and whatever you need to do will still be there waiting for you so you're going to have to get on with it. i've chose that opinion and of course, i'm now in the process of job hunting because i need a job for money.

it's going to be painful as fuck having to push yourself out of your comfort zone and might drive you nuts where you might quit that shit because you can't take the stress. shit remains the same. are you in school?

Wal mart gave me the results of the test and told me that I had failed the test.

you can do it, just step out of your room, there's a whole world is waiting for you out there.
I used to be in the same situation, it will all work out at the end of the day, trust me.

Too much aggression and mockery time and time again, when compassion and empathy would be more appropriate. icon_sad.gif

Those assessment tests are usually tricky. Often there's no right or wrong answer. Unless it's glaringly obvious that you should answer in a particular way, you should answer truthfully.

As far as your introversion goes, if you don't somehow find ways to push yourself out of your comfort zone and shift the barriers this has put up around you, it may only get worse over time.

You've really got to find a way to break that cycle of being stuck away in isolation. Getting out and doing anything at all, even solo, on a day to day basis will be a huge improvement. If you've got no hobbies in particular that you use to get yourself out of the house, try something new, it doesn't have to cost much $$$. Don't be closed of to new experiences, this is a trap many get into when in a bad place in life.

You're certainly doing the right thing by trying to get yourself into the work force. When you succeed, you'll be able to build up more self worth and hopefully confidence as well.

    Good luck.

I would just keep trying and apply to as many places as possible. I just landed a new job. I applied to about 10 places and only got interviews at 2 of them. Was very glad when one of them offered me the job. Don't get discouraged just keep trying. Tell yourself if they didn't think you were good enough for them then they really weren't good enough for you. Self confidence goes a long way when trying to land a job. Try to focus on all your positive aspects and not the negative. Good luck!
