Alright lately all I can remember is having bad dreams. Of me killing someone or someone killing me. Or being high up and falling. Last night was very real and vivid. I remember falling from a helicopter onto this tall tarp and sliding down it and nailing the ground. Then I also remember fighting with people to the death. Cutting peoples throats and people coming after me. Then I woke up and could not go back to sleep in fear of my dream would continue. Anyone know alot about dreams? Because all of mine lately have not been good ones at all. Scares me straight.icon_sad.gif

What are you thinking about before going to sleep? Are you watching TV or playing music?

Last night I had a nightmare. I rarely have them. In fact, I only recall a couple so far in my lifetime. I went to bed in a miserable way. I was totally overwhelmed with longing for the man I'm in love with, but cant have. I dreamt that he was at dinner with his new husband, in their new house. I woke up even more miserable, but eventually it all started to clear up and the faces changed for some reason in my mind. I was fine after that. Good thing, or I would've had an awful day. I cant sway my emotions easily.

Dreams are reflections of our emotions, but rarely will one see an accurate interpretaiton of their emotions. They tend to take things to the extreme. For instance, I know my guy isn't in love with anyone (though he said he was with me) but I'd say my wildest fear would be that he finds someone else for good without explaining why he's treated me so shitty. So there you go, just a nutty reflection of our emotions is my take on it.

Something to consider would be if you've had recent changes in your diet, or supplements or prescriptions. If you're taking vitamin and mineral supplements, don't take them before bed - you could be agitating yourself. Same with drugs, of course, and some foods just get things going.

Another idea, RITS: don't watch the news before bed. Better to take in something calming or neutral than the overstimulation of bad news on TV.

looknrnd, I don't have anything in that bag of tricks for you! Sometimes you get one of those with characters from your own life playing out potential scenarios - those seem to just be a working out of things by the subconscious. One of our head-men may come up with something.

If you think the dreams are something more than the evening news, or the chicken curry, you may want to give your doctor a call. Those nightmares can sometimes be the sign of something more serious.

lilmann saidWhat are you thinking about before going to sleep? Are you watching TV or playing music?

Yes, strong stimulation before sleep can be reflected in our dreams. Ask yourself if anything like these dream scenes have parallels in things you saw, heard or read about within the last few days.

If so, then try to avoid them if possible. Other suggestions here about diet & meds can also be factors, as can general stress & pressure in your life.

I went through a period of bad dreams when I was a teenager. So before dropping off to sleep I told myself to try to intervene when the dreams turned bad, to essentially "edit" them as I slept.

Amazingly enough, it worked. Not perfect at first, but over time I got better and better. To this day I can still step in and "rewind" a dream scene I don't like, and replay it to my satisfaction.

These nightmares are significant, Grasshopper. Before the first blue moon in the year 2018, you will kill Klegtz, alien commander from the plant Yuuhan Z-2--resulting in the defeat of the alien invaders. Afterward, you will become the leader of the remaining human race.

Or it could just be an annoying re-occuring nightmare. I have had several in life: Being eating by a great white, being hunted by velcioraptors; being chased by a 50 foot giant. icon_smile.gif

When we were little, all the adults were 50-foot giants. (If not 50-footed ones ...) icon_wink.gif

A number of good posts above. Having a gift for the potentially obvious, maybe you're really angry about something or feeling attacked in some way. That can happen sometimes. If so, likely will phase out on its own, but if it remains troubling and chronic, there are specialists to help. Good luck.

    STEP ASIDE: PSYCH MAJOR!!

^Me being a d-bag aside, are you stressed man... really stressed?

You dying in your dreams signifies a change your going through in your life; death (in your dreams) is usually a very positive thing, as twisted as it sounds. People NEED to change when they're harboring too much stress. icon_wink.gif

You killing people means your trying to change a part of your character, a part of your character the person whose "throat you slit" represents to you. I'll give you an example: you killing a cop MIGHT mean your changing the way you deal with authority, power, or something like that. In the end it's what the cop means to you, dreams are very SUBJECTIVE.

You fighting with people to death might mean its very hard for you to go through this change (your sorting of "struggling/fighting" with yourself).

    Sleep tight buddy!

Do you eat cheese before bedtime.

If so, please don't, because cheese can make you have bad dreams.

Hi you ALL! I do have UGLY bad dreams too most of them is mine BITTER ex-bf to blame! Mine ex NEVER stop stalking me no matter what I done to him since we split colse to a year ago. I nail him base on his cheating, lies and more. He REUIN all my dating groups, scray off ALL mine friends and future bf in which he get such a joy see me hurting to in tears. This year I trying to battle the hatch it with my ex. I want to place ALL the flight in the past and all the problem under the bridge. I am moving on and way I see it mine ex-bf is NOT backing down at no means. I been with mine ex-bf for 5 years and STILL bugging me. So I place a BLOCK in ALL mine web sites that include this one and STILL over rides it! My wrost dream did come true when mine ex walk in to my home and mine ex found the spare key in my home and my famliy member who I live with went out of town. I got home and I usely turn off my pc and leave my light in the living room near to the front door. Mine ex at the time live 2 street over and walked to mine home.
I got off work in the grociers store and I was very tire. I walk to my front dooor and it was lock. So I unlock my door and I hear some noise. I figer my older cousin was home but it was not the case. I got in my key ring mace and I never thought I will use it! when I walk in I say who there. no one answer. Later I saw my pc on and no one was on the my chair but I did smell my ex bf after shave of Polo Ralph Lauren I gave him on his birthday year before we split on his birthday. Mine ex love to swimming in his after shave some reason. Then mine my ex shut the door and bitch and curse out on me what he over looked what was I was cheating on him. He did not rape me but we got into NASTY flights (not hitting) just words and since he is SOOO bloody jealous the friends and pen pals he goes off the wall! I thow him out and did press chargers with the police and later drop it. But he been stalker ever since! That a dream I don't wish to ANYONE to go thought. I went and I am moving on but I have to watch mine back. Who knowns mine ex can do something wicked! icon_cry.gif

Don't know why but some of us are just wired for more nightmares - most nights of my life I have dark dreams and I try my best to discount them - have long ago stopped trying to analyze, what's the point? the human unconsciousness is so bazaar

I wonder though if they'll diminish after I finish coming out

I have trouble with nightmares as well. I keep a flashlight next to me when I sleep. I find it helps.

Have you experienced any major trauma in your life? Maybe a really bad accident, life threatening illness, or emotional stress? Even just coming out of the closet could be a major stressor.

I had some issues with post traumatic stress when I was a Police Officer. On the surface I was fine but the trauma expressed itself in my dreams / nightmares. I woke up many a night standing in the middle of my bed thinking that alligators and snakes were in my room. Not fun! Especially not fun for my partner!

I would recommend that you seek counseling to talk it out with a professional. Telling a stranger what is going on in your mind may not seem like it will help but it does. No shame in it all.

I see from your profile that you are a college student. You can probably go for free.

sorry dude, first you might want to speak to a mental health professional if the dreams are really bothering you

second, not to sound flippant, but eating ice a small bowl (1/4 pint) of ice cream before always makes me have really "sweet" dreamsicon_biggrin.gif

    No more pizza for dinner...
or other high salt foods before zzz time.

Your metab is probably working over time while you sleep, hence increased heart rate, blood pressure, over active imagination... Either that or somebodies out to cap your ass icon_eek.gif

i usually have nightmares when im under a lot of stress... sometimes i don't even know im under a lot of stress, have the nightmares, and then look back and analyze them and it points to where the stress is, on a subconscious level- like family tensions i hadn't thought consciously about or suppressed anger at someone, or even internalized frustrations at where my life is in general at the time. when i quit sleeping with my childhood comfort item a long time ago, i had nightmares every night for a month! lol.

im usually a lucid dreamer so my dreams are vivid, appeal to all my senses, and are realistic enough to sometimes be confused with actual memories in my distant past- or be intense enough to make me mad at someone i fought with in a dream the whole next day in real life, when there's no reason to be mad at them lol. kinda crazy- made even more vivid and intense by my meditations. the nightmares usually involve being chased/hunted- u know, the kind where ur in a panic and out of breath the entire time, and when you're running, its never fast enough... or you move sluggishly despite trying as hard as u can. more rarely, i've had the kind of dreams u describe where u end up killing people- usually in self defense but even so- im a non violent person and don't even like killing insects so its always particularly disturbing when i wake up from having shot someone in the head- i think its cause i subconsciously suppress any and all violent urges and then they surface in my dreams as manifestations of frustration or stress.

anyways- my advice: analyze them for yourself, considering personal connotative symbolism that may be reoccurring- think of what stresses in your life may be causing it all, and address them.
