For those of us who are into this magic, brilliant show, we will all be aware that David Tennant has stepped down as Doctor #10

Today, the BBC has announced that 26 year old UK actor Matt Smith will be stepping into the rather large shoes left behind.

Personally, I have always been wary when a new Doctor is announced, but then always intrigued and satisfied when the incoming actor actually takes on the iconic role. Good luck to him, I'm sure the series will continue to marvel and excite me.

At first I was turned off by someone so young playing the Doctor (yeah, I know - stupid) but after doing a google search I found this article and a video clip interview with it.

    Check it out.

I remember back when the 5th Doctor played by Peter Davidson was leaving they were considering a woman playing the part. Then what we got was Colin Baker. Never did like him even when I met him at a convention. Then his companion Meg showed up...

I think my favorite Doctor was Sylvester McCoy.

I think this is a big mistake. Why the hell would they do this!

My favourite had to be Paul McGann in the poorly written movie but surely David Morrisey could have been selected instead? He did a fantastic job in The Next Doctor and just give him a slight persona change and he can fill in as Doctor Who really well. My god, this guy is younger than me!

I guess until they move on to the twelfth Doctor, no more Doctor after David Tennant for me!

Tom Baker was my favorite doctor in the series, followed by David Tennant. I was thrilled when Sci Fi started showing the new series on scifi Friday. I will have to see how this new actor portrays him, but anything is better than Colin Baker icon_eek.gif

I will say that I've not really liked the new series very well only because it centered on Earth so much. That's what I liked about the original run. You never knew where they were going next.

I almost stopped watching it altogether but then I saw the episode 'Blink'. I think it was in the 3rd season. Now that was a fantastic episode! I still think it should have been made into a horror movie though. Still haven't seen this last season.

I have to agree about Blink. Even my sci-fi hating boyfriend loved Blink, and then showed it to his friends!

I have loved David Tennant and the series that he's been in. I'll miss him, but what gripes me the most is having to wait until 2010 to get the new series. That means 2011 here in Australia. icon_sad.gif

I'm willing to give him a chance. Every actor has brought something different to the role. Chris Eccleston was a thug Doctor to me, but I loved his portrayal. And David Tennant was totally different from him.

I think Matt Smith looks just the part, its gonna be good, now the speculation can begin as to who his companion is going to be.

I think it will be the Doctor's daughter from the previous series.

    Suggestions anybody?

I agree that "Blink" was a great episode, as was "Silence in the Library" a year later. It's for that reason that I'm hopeful that the show will improve in the 5th series/season, because not only will there be a new Doctor, but the guy who wrote those two great episodes (Steven Moffat) is taking over the whole show!

And yes, the new guy is insanely young, but he also looks potentially more "edgy" than Tennant, and that's a good thing in my opinion.
