He ran an almost presidential, rather than parliamentary, election. Does it concern you that he shied away from substantive issues, and instead relied on photo ops w/ Bollywood actors and celebrities?

I didn't write that Bollywood celebs campaigned for him. What I did write is that he took every opportunity to be photographed w/ celebs. These photo ops were then splashed all over Indian TV even to the exclusion of cricket matches (or so I read).

My main interest is if he is willing to help mend the recent/current rift between India and the US? I know that India is now pursuing Russian armaments to supply Afghani military forces. How will this impact the tenuous and rather hostile relationship between India and Pakistan? Do Indians in general see Russia as a bulwark vis-à-vis China?

I know you cannot speak for ALL Indians, but I am sure you have a better grasp of the situation there than do I.

Typical scum-bag politician; and the idiots voted for him no less.

The machine just keeps on grinding away worldwide, it's sad.

So...why don't you enter politics and put things in right order instead of calling us "idiots" for choosing...well...IYHO a "scum-bag" ;)

And, BTW...IMHO he's not a scum-bag. Actually most of us Indians think he's one of the best leaders India need at this present moment, because he did achieved many things before that and also less equally suffered criticism. And as no one can predict the future, we're hoping that what we think is positively right. Fingers cross.
Just like you Americans chose Lincoln and Bush; and each led your nation in different directions.

That's a hard thing to say!
I think the primary reason people turned towards him is not only because he's "apparently" good politician but also we are really tired of all the mess that has been created by the until now ruling Congress party from scams, corruptions and negligence to autocratic ruling. etc.

Some actively chose him and some passively turned towards him because there's literally no other option.
