Having been educated, living life vicariously through other people, life experiences and so on. I am feeling underwhelmed and disillusioned with the influences and real impact that other people play in my life.

Something that I must struggle with because I do not want to become like other people and do what they do to themselves and to other people. To the point that it is such a detriment to my life simply because I am different and do not share their ideals. lifestyle, dogma or values.

Oppression comes in many forms. At times I feel marginalized, powerless, a victim simply because I am different from other people.

You have to realize that who other people are, and what other people do is not my problem. I do not need to feel uncomfortable and like a victim simply because I differ from other people.

I want to respect and appreciate other people which is simply not possible all the time. Why should I be looking for acceptance and approval from other people who will not appreciate, accept, or respect me.

In an world where people are being oppressed, coerced, influenced and taught by the actions of other people it is important to be true to yourself.

If I am not impressed with many people that is not my problem nor my fault.

Be the kind of person you respect, and it won't matter what others think of you.

so, it sounds like you're just now figuring out that, after 40 some years, not everybody thinks the same

be yourself, accept people for who they are, and enjoy your life

Writing with a degree of granularity - such as the use of examples for establishing context - has been known to provide readers with a greater understanding of an author's intent.

If other people seem to be affecting the quality of your life, think about the common denominator: You.

That's right. Other people cannot affect the quality of your life. You're the one in control of your emotions. If the quality of your life is poor, it's your own fault...not the fault of people around you.

Contraire. The juxtaposition between choices and what I can actually do. Everything is increasingly being influenced, manipulated and controlled to some extent by others. What control do I have over the attitudes, beliefs and actions of the people around me?

You can control those things if you learn how to be manipulative.

None, but you do have control over your own attitudes, beliefs, and actions.

Outside influences can play a role in how you control them, but ultimately the decision is yours.
