New poll finds Americans would vote for a gay president over an atheist one

66% of Americans surveyed by the Pew Research Center said a candidate’s sexuality wouldn't matter in who they voted for president, while 5% said they would be even more inclined to vote for a candidate if he or she was gay

This is the issue with multiculturalism and a multicultural country, there is not any one person that can represent all people.

But then by shoving all our different tribes such as GLBT under the one banner, has never made us one. We are still many different tribes with different agendas, and there can be no one leader.

That's why there are several branches within the govt. The President is just the guinea pig that takes the rap every time shit happens.

Well, here in the US our Declaration of Independence states that "We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal... If we can find presidential candidates and other elected representatives that actually believe this we might actually have a chance of creating "a more perfect Union" as envisioned by our founding fathers and as stated in our Constitution and actually have leadership that represents all people.

If we truly believed all men were created equal slavery would have been abolished at the ratification of our Constitution, native Americans would have been treated with the dignity they deserved, there would have not been a need for an amendment to allow women the right to vote, there would be no need for black Americans to fight for their civil rights, there would be no need for gays to fight for their rights, etc.

The sad fact is is that far to many do not believe that "all men are created equal" not even the founding fathers who owned slaves.

If a candidate came along who truly exhibited that he/she believed that all men were created equal, I would vote for them whether or not they chose to believe in a deity or not, were male or female, were straight or gay, black or white, etc.

I find the idea of a atheist president refreshing. After they overcome the battle of winning over souls in the deep south ;) I would love to see the direction they take the country. I personally think things for the evangelicals will get harder but for everyone else things might work out a bit better.

unlikely they find a gay man that has Jesus. organized religion really burnt bridges with the gay population.

than they find that he has a personal life that includes kissing and sex?
