What do you mean when you call someone that? What does it mean when someone calls you that? Is it a compliment? or does it have a "pretty but dumb" connotation?

for me it depends on the guy icon_razz.gif

If hes hot, hes a stud, if hes smart, hes still a stud, if hes dumb generally I'll call him a hot stud... maybe... but it all depends icon_razz.gif

I think "stud" is like "dude", in that the meaning is interchangeable depending on the context of the situation. icon_lol.gif

So if its someone that you are friends with, its equivilent to "hey man", right?

If its someone you are dating, or someone you meet who has an obvious sexual/intimate interest in you, it is something sexual? A compliment? In that case, do you think they mean that you are a sex machine, or a top, or a Don Juan type of player?

I usually don't use it as a literal sexual term, like the way you're thinking. For me it's a playful pet name for someone I'm dating. I don't think I'd call any of my male friends a stud, unless I'm joking around. Like..

"hey stud, someone is checking you out from the other side of the room."

And I wouldn't use it on someone I'm interested in. It would be kinda corny to use that as a pick-up line.

If I use it on a guy - I mean it as totally high praise. A MAN among MEN!

I think the use of the word stud does not refer to someone pretty or dumb but has a sexual connotation as it is used in the phrases stud horse or stud farm. When it is used in reference to a human male it refers to how effectively that male uses his stud and has a positive connotation for that male's prowess in the sack or on the beach or in a dark alley or across the kitchen table or, well, you get the idea.

I usually call a guy a stud if i'm interested in him or we're already involved, but that's usually in text messaging. Sometimes a "hey stud" as a greeting in person. I've been known to greet platonic friends, gay & straight with hey stud.

    Think: Chuckystud.

Actually, I always wonder what people mean when they use the word to describe themselves.

Stud doesn't bother me. Getting called, "big guy" or "buddy" bothers me though.

I have resigned myself to getting called "daddy" even though inside it still makes me feel like I heard someone scraping his fingernails on a chalkboard.

I usually ask them to call me "Woodkiller" instead.
