    And a little bit country ( yes, country is considered folk music)

    Music relating to the folklore of each country. All countries have their own folk music. Examples are calypso, bomba, Andean, celtic, Balkan etc.

    lol we don't know but I suppose the purists would say

    Bob Dylan
    Pete Seeger
    Joni Mitchell
    Joan Baez
    CSNY
    Nick Drake

    then it all morphed in folk country rock (Eagles, Grateful Dead, Jackson Browne)

    I guess Iron and Wine is about the purest form now
