NYT: Some newly minted college graduates struggle to find work. Others accept jobs for which they feel overqualified. Student debt, meanwhile, has topped $1 trillion.

It’s enough to create a wave of questions about whether a college education is still worth it.

A new set of income statistics answers those questions quite clearly: Yes, college is worth it, and it’s not even close. For all the struggles that many young college graduates face, a four-year degree has probably never been more valuable.

The pay gap between college graduates and everyone else reached a record high last year, according to the new data, which is based on an analysis of Labor Department statistics by the Economic Policy Institute in Washington. Americans with four-year college degrees made 98 percent more an hour on average in 2013 than people without a degree. That’s up from 89 percent five years earlier, 85 percent a decade earlier and 64 percent in the early 1980s.

I don't buy all those stats, they are just more propaganda for the colleges and universities to keep luring people in and promising them the world when in reality there are too many degreed people and not enough professional jobs to employ all of them. College is a big waste of money and a big waste of time. I deeply regret wasting four years of my life getting a bachelors degree. It didn't make me more competitive in the job market and it hasn't helped most of the young people today. College degrees are grossly overrated. There is a pent up demand for skilled blue collar trades, that is where the US needs to start encouraging more young people to pursue rather than waste four years and even more in pursuit of a degree that isn't going to do jack shit in helping a person break into the job market.

I think they skipped over an important detail: you actually have to get a job.

A better title would be: "Employees with degree earn more than employees without".

I'm interested in knowing the percent of the unemployed with a degree and the percent without a degree.

Edit: as it turns out a degree helps you battle unemployment also.
