I have always wanted to go on one of those cruises. CuriousJock posted some pictures and it looks like they're fun.

    Maybe next year.

Yeah, I followed his photo blog and it looked like a blast. My only reservation is that Atlantis have a record of taking gay cruises to 'gay-intolerant' ports of call (e.g. those with active 'sodomy' laws still on the statute books), the logic of which I fail to understand and find quite offensive. I'm sure gay cruise travelers generally get a perfectly pleasant reception from the locals in such places, but it's the principle.

I remember one incident—either last year or the year before where two guys got caught having sex on the balcony and they were arrested because of that country's sodomy laws.

I think most countries have indecency laws. Why would anyone have sex on their balcony while the ship is docked especially in a foreign country? They deserved to be arrested!!! Keep that stuff for the open seas!!

Go to cruisecritic.com. Look for the forums and then search the gay and lesbian section. There is a link called a "roll call" and here, you'll meet others who are going to be on that same sailing.

Yes, that did happen and the two guys were idiots. They have a cabin but decided to pound ass on the balcony while the ship was docked. I didn't feel sorry for their detention, they make all gay guys look bad and like sluts.

Indeed, most countries do have indecency laws and having sex in public is a criminal offence in most jurisdictions.

Most countries do not, however, make homosexual sex per se a crime. I'd rather be helping to fill the tourism coffers of more progressive countries and I would suggest a travel operator like Atlantis, catering specifically for gay people, ought to be doing the same.

Yes, that's the one. If I remembered correctly, that older one is a retired cop. He definitely should have known better.

For those who have gone on these trips, are they cruise-y?

Whether in a pro gay country or anti gay country it still wrong. We gays should be able to travel any where in the world and not act like sexual idiots!!!!

The problem being that in a country where having gay sex (at all) is a crime, a gay 'sexual idiot' is likely to receive harsher treatment than a straight 'sexual idiot'. Moreover, the whole question of what constitutes 'sexual idiocy' is likely to be heavily skewed against gay people in such a country.

I went on an Atlantis cruise February 2013. 8 nights around the Caribbean from Ft Lauderdale. Everything about it was phenomenal - both the gay stuff (hot guys, parties, sex) and the non-gay stuff (the food, the room, the view, the gym on board, entertainment). Would really recommend it.

That sounds like some justification for going out on the balcony to pound your boyfriends ass. Regardless of whether it's a gay friendly country or a straight couple, I think pounding away inside your cabin is the appropriate thing. These two were 'sexual idiots' that probably did it solely because they knew buggery was illegal. It's hard to feel sorry for them being arrested. When in Rome, do as the Romans, otherwise, don't go to Rome.

I heard about this site on the first cruise I went. Non-gay cruise and it was SO helpful to know all about the destination, cruise line, ship, activities, excursions. And yes, does seem like the 'Role Call' allows people to get to know each other a bit beforehand and then meet for a cocktail when they arrive.

Great site! Thanks for sharing it!

I am not justifying anything and I was not discussing 'that' case specifically (I didn't even bring it up). I have already acknowledged having sex in public is (justifiably) a criminal matter in most jurisdictions.

I'm talking about the morality of gay people vacationing in countries where their sexuality per se is a crime (and 'exclusively gay' travel operators who choose to take them there).

Of course, if you want to spend your vacation and hard earned money in a country whose criminal code regards you as a lesser form of humanity, fill your boots.

They'd get arrested in USA to for having sex in public. Morons! If they want attention that's what X-tube is for. I thought that went out in the 70's

Ok here's my two cents on this
I agree that some countries are criminal and need to be avoided at all costs like Iran and now Russia because of their stances on homosexuality but I also will not be deterred from going where I want to go on vacation because there are dumbf**ks in the world

Dubai has really strict anti gay laws but its a top tourist destination.
I went there and met this really promiscuous Italian working there named Mark, get this, Mark was in charge of the emirates fleet. Mark had friends in the royal family and told me no one really cares unless you go out and make a big deal of it. Like shove in people's faces. I was shocked at how many gay guys I came across from all ethnicity's, professions etc.

So if they can live there happily I don't see a problem with visiting.

I've never been to Dubai, but I have been tempted to go, especially after watching all those National Geographic Megastructures shows about it. I've always decided against going though. I think this guy's review best sums up my attitude towards Dubai (and the other 'liberal' Arabian Peninsula countries, several of which I've visited through work).

I get what you're saying and I agree to some extent. I certainly have looked at how a country views homosexuality as one consideration for my travel destination. I also think it's interesting that many cruises do go to places that have strong anti-gay laws, some I see just because of their popularity but others I question when there are nearby 'gay friendly' destinations that seem more suitable.
