Lieutenant Governor, I didn't know my work email was on his distribution list, this is the email I got from him yesterday

It's blowing me away, [my name]

Just last week, Oregon and Pennsylvania became the 18th and 19th states to legalize marriage for same-sex couples. And a federal judge in Idaho struck down their ban too, though the decision is on hold pending appeal.

In February 2004, I ordered the county clerk in San Francisco to start issuing marriage licenses to same-sex couples – the first place in America to do that. It wasn't very popular then, even here in California.

Unfortunately, the Winter of Love only lasted a month. Since then, we’ve taken steps forward and backward, but over the last ten years, it’s clear which way the momentum is going. Together, we lit a fire and a grassroots movement took off. And now, across the country, we're seeing love win out in state after state.

Just check out this map. It's amazing, isn't it?

Would you share this map with your friends and family?

I don't think it's a coincidence that the rise of the marriage equality movement mirrors the rise of social media. We know that when people opposed to marriage get to know loving LGBT couples, their minds change.

And there's nothing quite like social media for getting to know people -- especially those a little further out of your immediate circle.

So don't ever think that posting on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram or Pinterest doesn't matter. What we're doing here is changing the world.

Let's keep it up. Just 31 states to go.

    Gavin

Due to social media, the govt knows more about you than your own family.

Needless to say, Gavin Newsome was a well liked mayor in SF. I suspect you'll see him in the Governor's Mansion in the future and as gay marriage becomes more acceptable across the country, his chances of heading to the White House increase too.

yeah, he is only 46, I wish he could replace that current governor already, cant believe 'moonbeam' is the only democratic person, who already was governor, was reelected to do it again, I don't dislike Brown as a person, just don't like his ridged style, sometimes pandering, annoying and not a very good motivational speaker. Arnold had a better style than Brown. Gavin has some charisma and I think would do well as CA governor with a Hillary president! icon_razz.gif

I still don't know how I got on his mailing list, but ok, I have an idea though

Then NEVER contribute to a politician or nonprofit organization. Most of the email I get every day is asking me for money, or to sign petitions. And much of it is redundant, I keep getting asked to contribute to the same political issue, but by different offices.

For instance, right now I'm being bombarded with daily emails to help the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee (DCCC) from Obama, Biden, Pilosi, Democrats 2014, and several others I forget at the moment, but all basically asking for the same thing. (Of course not from them personally, just using their names)

And then I get appeals from Michelle Obama for her own causes, and from organizations like HRC, Equality Florida, ACLU, Planned Parenthood, and others I can't recall.

Of course I gave them my email initially. But I've also been getting swamped with Medicare supplement offers because I'm 65. (Actually I was already receiving it for disability, but I guess now I've gone into "regular" Medicare or something). How all these HMOs and other medical providers got my info I'll never know, to include my home address, cause most comes in regular mail. I'm assuming Medicare gave it to them, wasn't aware that was legal.

I was not a fan of Brown from the old days either, but I have to say that I think he's done a much better job this time, considering the issues (mostly financial) that he faced coming into office. I think the state is looking much better now than it has for quite some time.

Yeah, for a communist t**t like you, anything that does not smell of socialist sh*t is something you will not be a fan of.

The financial issues have improved but of course their are still issues to deal with and will continue to deal with. What State does not have financial problems to deal with? We have growth in many sectors but the growth of the tech industry with high paying jobs really helped a lot.
