Just curious. Do you use it to make friends, fitness advice, eye candy, attention whoring, discuss sports, recipes, validation? What do you use RealJock for?

Additional questions: If you use this site for fitness advice, has it really helped you?

If you use it to make friends, how many friends have you made and how many have you met IRL?

    Please, keep this civil icon_rolleyes.gif

I use it to hopefully make a connection with gay people and learn things from, i don't need validation as if you don't like me well you don't simple as stay out my way.

I am considering whether it is of any use at all for me though!

    Good response Dennis icon_smile.gif

I personally was going to use it for fitness advice and recipes but thanks to all the drama, my interest has fade away. I can still make friends though.

Yes all the fitness advice, its a good place if you want to discuss them topics but even that area of the website becomes a no go as your interest fades away from the entire site.

I genuinely set up a profile on here to chat about fitness and gymming. I have found it to be less useful than I expected, but I'm still glad I found RJ. I have found a few guys who really enjoy chatting about fitness on here. We swap ideas and chat about gym in general. I've even skyped one or two guys to exchange ideas about fitness and gym techniques and diet and stuff. These are the guys that make me happy I joined. I also see some really hot guys and I find it motivating that I can achieve the same as them, really...

Sadly, for the most part, closeted guys from South Africa use this as a dating website for other closeted jocks and guys they hope won't be fem. Guys also send dumb sexually charged messages or unlock their pictures often despite my profile explicity stating I have no interest in it. Oh well... *blocks and moves on*

Beyond the fitness, though, it is nice to engage in some casual conversations about gay life as active, fit gay men rather than with other members of the gay community that have no interest in fitness. I find that most of my friends don't seem to understand a huge part of my life as I consider fitness and well-being a lifestyle. It's just better chatting to guys with the same lifestyle (healthier eating, conscious of alcohol consumption, gym etc

Ultimately, sticking it out and finding the diamonds in the rough that enjoy a cyberconversation about fitness is what makes RJ worth it for me icon_smile.gif

I came here because it is a community (albeit a somewhat dysfunctional one). Although I live in a geographic area where there are a lot of gay men (I have several gay friends) I just don't hang out with them much any more. This all has to do with a series of emotional upsets I went through several years ago. I ended up isolating myself. So, initially, it was a way to see what is going on in other gay men's minds. What they think about. How they express themselves. I have met several RJers and they all seem good guys but, mostly due to my age, I just don't feel all that drawn to RL social interaction outside of my work and a few very close friends.

I also like being a support to other gay men when I can. I feel like my life experiences have taught me a lot and if that can be of value to others, that's a good thing. That is self-validating in a way but I don't see that as a problem. There's nothing wrong with having an ego, we all do, and in my experience *most* (not all) gay men (especially younger ones) often suffer from negative self-images.

I enjoy looking at healthy men, too, I don't deny that. But I don't use this site for erotic stimulation (I have tumblr for that, lol). I'm not here to find sex (I'm basically asexual at this point) or a relationship. It is more of an inspiration for me. I've learned a lot of useful things about fitness here, too.

So, for me, it is just interesting to see what all goes on here. I love it when someone posts something witty or funny that makes me laugh. I seldom do outside of RJ. Then, too, there *is* all the drama… which is both fascinating and at times shocking. Far more entertaining than watching some show.

What I dislike is bickering that goes on and on over and over again. I also feel somewhat 'protective' of RJ. I'm on the watch for trolls like Sustenance who want to use this forum to abuse everyone else. That I won't tolerate.

I hoped to make friends with other non-fem homosexual men, does this actually happen on here?

non-sexual friends that share the traits of being homosexual and are devoid of effeminacy?

In b4 "discrimination" claims, I just want friends that I have something in common with.

It has a good combination of fitness advice, dating advice, drama and sexy pics. If I could think of an improvement it would be a sub forum where you are anonymous, so people could talk about topics more frankly like on most forums where people don't know what you look like. Then the sex and adult posts would be a lot more honest and interesting...

yes, this would counter the passive aggressiveness in here.

Or lead to even more aggressive trolling.

I fancy RJ , it entertains me , i have connected with real nice down to earth mates , i find lots of interesting articles on all forums .
Now that said , there is a fair bit of bickering from galahs who try to derail some forum's threads , for those instances , i just ignore the thread and go to another one ..

I found this site when I was looking for workout ideas and was blown away by the forum discussions (flame wars were few but kinda fun, not like today's boring troll fests). I'm DL and the only openly gay guys I met previously were pretty bitchy (to me in particular) and it left me thinking they were dysfunctional (frankly) as a result of growing up in a hostile environment. I also thought "Physically Fit" and "Gay" were oxymorons (I live in a suburb and go to a gym with no obvious gay folks). This site completely shattered most of my pre-conceived notions of gay guys. I was stunned by the number of really great looking guys and in particular by the number of guys who really seemed to have their s**t together. Still find some bitchy people that bring flashbacks all in all most people are cool and easily people I could be friends with.

I've used the RealJock exercise routines, watched the videos and paid attention to suggestions in the forums regarding food and tips. I'm really happy about that, in all honesty. easily half my current routine is stuff I picked up from the site.

The best thing (aside from befriending some great guys),though, is that it really opened my eyes to the gay sub-culture in ways I never would have seen before.

It would still be moderated and people could still be banned for their posts in there. The name RJ Confessions is perfect icon_biggrin.gif

Maybe I should start an RJ confessions thread and people can message me with their confessions? People would have to trust that I wouldn't name them though...can't see that happening hahaha.

Dennis---honestly, you haven't given it a good shot. You keep appearing and disappearing which sends the message to any guys you meet that you may not be worth investing the time in since you may be gone again shortly.

And before anyone chimes in, yeah, I've been doing the multiple disappearing act lately too, but I've been on here for seven years and I think it's fairly clear by now who does and doesn't want to know me better.

lmao Ohno, there was a RJ COnfession thread once. Unfortunately, a lot of dudes got too sensitive and they deleted the thread. They even insulted me lol I personally thought the thread was hilarious. I wasn't offended at all.

I don't know if you've gone into some of the fitness sub-forums and asked specific fitness related questions. If not, I suggest you try that.
