The other day I was down on 7th av. here in Phoenix (The Melrose district). I was picking up some supplies for my various projects and decided to stop in this cool coffee shop (COPPER STAR COFFEE) http://www.copperstarcoffee.com/ After ordering an Iced Green tea I figured I would sit down and take break. I sat next to a few people and we chatted about all kinds of things and various topics. Food, diet and the HEAT!!
It reminded me of an Ice cream Social where people get together and have treats, visit and chill in the community. They have some amazing deserts, none of which I will eat, but it was nice to pick up a positive vibe and network in a fun atmosphere.

Do you have a place like this in your area? Maybe these pages could be MORE like a hip coffee [shop] talk place or Ice Cream Social.

Any good news I would find interesting!

    Have a nice day!

I grew up going to the Ice Cream Social in my hometown every summer. My grandparents ran the hotdog stand and my sister and I would work the cash box. Many people in the community would donate desserts or tubs of ice cream, and you could get a plate full of treats for a couple of dollars and then sit around and shoot the breeze with everyone. I have fond memories of it. Reno doesn't have anything quite like that, though, as far as I know.

    Very cool!

I would like to have a neighborhood gathering of EVERYONE...

All colors, all faiths, all sexual orientation. A contest and whip up some homemade ice cream for a prize. lol

    Maybe for RJ too?

RJ could use a little more community and camaraderie at times, that's for sure.

Atlanta understands the ice cream social concept pretty well.
It's easy to strike up a conversation almost everywhere here.
If you visit, start with Midtown, Ansley, Inman Park and the Old Fourth Ward.

Yes, Charlotte has an eclectic neighborhood called NoDa, stands for North Davidson and in this hood is a coffee shop called Smelly Cats Cafe. Sounds like a place animals go for litter but it's a really cool place and the coffee is fantastic. I love going there with friends, get a latte and have a great chat.

I was just at the Melrose district this weekend. Wish I would have seen this thread before leaving back for home so I could have checked this place out. I haven't seen a place like this in Orange County, but sure there's got to be one. It would be fun to have an ice cream social with some RJers.

Yea, would be great. I grew up in Phoenix and some things have changed from when I lived there 6 years ago including some of the gyms I used to go to. Phoenix seems a tad more gay than I remember it too.

Ice Cream Social = What's On Your Mind (WOYM) but without the calories. RJ's way of keeping the old in a very healthy way!!!
