I just spent the weekend helping a good friend of mine prepare for deployment to Iraq. I also hung around with him most the day at his National Guard unit as they loaded up to leave. Unlike our straight counterparts, we had to forgo any sign of an emotional departure and replace it with handshakes and high-fives.

It’s going to be tough considering he is completely OUT in his personal life but has to put up a wall of secrecy for over a year while overseas. I spent some time in the Army Reserves by never had to deploy. I can’t imagine the stress he is going to endure.

Just wanted to say how grateful I am to our Servicemembers and Veterans. Let’s hope “DADT” will be a thing of the past soon! You can do you part by signing the petition on the Servicemembers Legal Defense Network web page. http://www.sldn.org/
