Merely months after its co-founder "quit" the Republican Party (in word, if not in deed)...

...the right-wing gay group GOProud first denied...

...then, hours later, admitted, they're pretty much closing up shop on the whole organization, at least under the banner of GOProud.

But, Death Be Not GOProud, at least not completely. They're retiring the name and are hoping to build up some type of online grassroots effort to rebrand and reorganize.

Bilerico(Executive Director Matthew) Bechstein made it clear that they still wanted to get the buy-in from donors and members before moving forward with the plan. Not all mid-level volunteers had been notified of the group's decision before (Bilerico's Andrew) Markle's report was published. Panicked that the news had broken before all participants had been informed, Bechstein requested that the Bilerico article be removed from the site. When his request was refused, the group posted their denial on Facebook.

"The fact is, in order to continue promoting the conservative principles upon which this organization was founded, change is needed. One of the changes under discussion is a switch to a different legal type of organization - basic paperwork that requires dissolution and immediate subsequent reorganization.

Technically, as some argue, this would be a legal closure," he emailed. "But if it were to actually happen, it would only be momentary and certainly not the end of our organization."

While Bechstein claims that filing dissolution paperwork with the federal government would necessitate "immediate subsequent reorganization," this is not a requirement from the government. The group will simply be dissolved. Any new group formed would have to file independent paperwork as needed depending on how they reorganize.

An online-only grassroots group would not require any filings; otherwise every Facebook group would have to file tax papers with the federal government. If the new organization accepts donations, it will have to file its own legal documents for tax purposes.

My hunch is they'll come back in the form of some kind of anti-gay version of Memeographs.

A pile of shit rebranded as anything but a pile of shit is still easily recognizable as a pile of shit.

Ahhh! Division among the GOP, the Conservapussies®, and all of the other Right-Wing-Nut factions!

I can only hope for more of this forever.

DailyBeastReports began trickling out in the press this week that GOProud had decided to close up shop. In truth, the original organization functionally folded a year ago, The Daily Beast has learned. And the attempts to reboot GOProud are being actively mocked by the men who founded the group.

The decline of GOProud is a prime example of what happens to an organization that rises to prominence through confrontation—and never bothers to do the grunt work needed to sustain the outfit, once the outrage dies down. It was feisty and controversial — a Tea Party, of sorts, to the more establishment-minded Log Cabin Republicans. It was an organization running on a shoestring budget that elbowed its way into the conservative conversation.

DailyBeastFor many supporters of GOProud, being called a “troll” was a badge of honor. Their goal from the start was to plant a flag in the ground: There are gay conservatives, and here we are. Others, even those sympathetic to the group, accused it of being a vanity project for its cofounders, Christopher Barron and Jimmy LaSalvia, a platform for the two to pick fights.
