Im new at this. Ive been reading a lot of articles lately about common workout routines and the guy at GNC also told me that I should consume my protein shake/drink prior to and as soon as im done working out.

that being said, how and when do you make your protein shake for your post work out routine?

so do you usually put ice in your shake? if i make a shake at home and consume it after an hour long workout, will it still taste okay? do you recommend bringing the blender to the gym and making it there?

what do you guys usually do? and also if you have a product recommendation for a good blender or shaker i will highly appreciate that.

    thanks.

I'm not sure if an electric blender would be a less than awkward device to bring to the gym. However, I've seen stranger things in my life.

I have, however, seen devices such as these at the gym:

do you necessarily have to use ice to make protein shakes?

If your workout was 2 or 3 hours long a shake should last that long if you made it before you left for the gym. If you want it to be cold when you drink it you could keep an insulated container in the freezer or fridge up until you pour the shake into it. The ice would be a matter of your preference; I prefer using yogurt or frozen almond milk instead of watering it down with ice.

I don't know that I've ever seen ice in a protein shake.

PLEASE bring your blender to the gym and video record your after-workout routine (complete with reactions) in the locker room.

You can wait an hour to consume your protein.

Pay attention guys. The GNC guy told him he'd waste away to skin and bones if he didn't drink his protein shake with alacrity.

I bring mine in an insulated coffee cup and throw in 2 ice cubes. That keeps it cool. I mix protein with chocolate milk so blending it with ice cubes never occurred to me.

You don't have to drink your shake the second after you finish your workout. Just do it at home.

Why not bring a Mr Frosty with you and make a frozen shake that way? Or...you could have a room temperature shake like the rest of us minions.

I've heard that if the protein shake you use contains a high amount of whey protein, it is best to consume immediately after mixing the powder with water rather than let it sit for a couple of hours - even if it is insulated and kept cold. My understanding is that whey protein powder starts to break down very rapidly when mixed with water.

My suggestion would be to take a blender/shaker cup to the gym like GAMrican suggested - you could even put some ice cubes in it if you want to keep it cold - or just wait until you are home if you are going to be back home less than an hour after your workout.

I just think if you're going to bring a blender to the gym, you should go all out and bring a little table to set up too. You can transfer the whole thing from station to station and everyone will admire your dedication!

I like an omelette after swimming laps. Would it be okay if I bring a hot plate to the gym?

Mmmmm. That sounds good. But I like coffee with my eggs. I'll bring the espresso maker! Do you think the gym will have enough outlets for all this?

Well of course, why else would there be a power strip in the locker room?
