It's official. The Texas GOP formally endorses reparative therapy for gays, even children. Since being gay is a disorder that can be cured.

Under the new plank, the Texas GOP will "recognize the legitimacy and efficacy of counseling, which offers reparative therapy and treatment for those patients seeking healing and wholeness from their homosexual lifestyle."

I didn't know I'm a patient because I'm gay. Or that I'm sick in any way, and need "healing" or lack "wholeness".

Now please tell us again, RJ Republicans, why we should support your Party, and its candidates for elective office? Who believe and campaign on platforms like this? Which aren't limited to Texas. Do please explain.

The new anti-gay language never came up for debate before roughly 7,000 delegates ratified a Texas GOP platform that tea party groups succeeded in pushing further to the right, including winning a harder line on immigration.

Under the new plank, the Texas GOP recognizes "the legitimacy and efficacy of counseling, which offers reparative therapy and treatment for those patients seeking healing and wholeness from their homosexual lifestyle."

The American Psychological Association and other major health organizations have condemned such counseling, which generally try to change a person's sexual orientation or to lessen their interest in engaging in same-sex sexual activity. The groups say the practice should not be used on minors because of the danger of serious psychological harm.

"The platform reflects what the people in the Republican Party have asked for, and that should be no surprise: family values, protection of marriage between one man and one woman and everything that goes along with that," said Jonathan Saenz, president of the conservative group Texas Values and a convention delegate.

I was having some trouble with the links, not sure what was the problem. icon_confused.gif

But that earlier thread was when this was being debated by the Texas GOP. It's official now. Being gay is a disorder, that should be cured. In their Party Platform.

Well, as I told you, those earlier links were when this issue was being debated and voted upon. Now it's a done deal. Being gay in Texas is officially a treatable disorder, according to the Republican Party. And since the Republican Party runs the State without opposition, sorta like the Communist Party in China or North Korea, it's also official State government policy.

There are a lot of seriously stoopid people in Texas, and the rest of the South.

The sad part is it will probably never end...at least not in our lifetimes. If I lived in TX, I'd give away everything and leave the state. Being homeless where I'm considered equal is better than being "comfy" where I'm considered diseased.

Does that include like quitting smoking therapy--where you smoke and smoke and smoke until you're sick of it?

Cause I'd be up to try that type of gay reparative therapy.

CNNSpearheading the endorsement is Cathie Adams, president of the conservative Texas Eagle Forum. She stressed that the measure calls for allowing people to choose the treatment.

"Nothing is mandatory," Adams wrote in an e-mail to CNN on Saturday. "If a person chooses counseling, then it should be made available. California and New Jersey have passed bills OUTLAWING it altogether, which is under litigation. It's a freedom issue."

There is freedom to be put in bondage already, Mizz Cathie. But that's not the good kind that I'm thinking of! icon_razz.gif

CNNAdams told CNN in a phone interview she was introduced to reparative treatment by a constituent in her precinct who claimed he was a gay man who is now straight because of such treatment.

"I do not think homosexuals are born as homosexuals," Adams said.

"To say this is an unchangeable thing, there are too many people who've changed their mind about homosexuality. No one can change the color of their skin or change the place they're born, but they can definitely choose their lifestyles," she added.

I believe the other anti-gay language stayed in as well!

That is the 100% absolute truth. The state of Texas is technically a right wing dictatorship and will remain well into the future despite the changing demographics. Even in the big, major cities of Houston, Dallas, San Antonio, and Fort Worth the urban electorate is largely right wing and conservative. Granted Houston has a lesbian mayor, she is probably a willing lap dog for big corporate business which is a possible reason why she got reelected mayor of the nation's fourth largest city. Houston is doing everything possible to become the corporate headquarters and business capital of the US and she is the city's biggest cheer leader as well as its successful leader. But Texas will always be a red, republican state run by tea party radicals, war mongering neocons, and NARROW MINDED BIBLE THUMPING SCREWBALLS. Why any self respecting gay man in his right mind would ever want to reside in Texas and love Texas just doesn't make a lick of sense.

They won't fund health care, but I bet they'd be willing to pour (tax) money into this!
