Yeah I know another race thread but this isn't for trolling or debating. I want to ask all black gays and also other racial minorities, comparing all the metro areas that you've traveled to around the world which cities had gay communities that seemed the least racist/segregated/close-minded etc. As in open to interracial relationships, not openly using racial slurs, and doesn't try talk down people of other races.

I don't think race issues are more prominent in the gay community than im heterosexual. So my guess would be people's experiences as gay minorities would be similar to that of non gay minorities.

Every single place has it's own drawbacks - racialism is just part of the world we live in buddy ! When I was in Berlin with a black mate he seemed to be getting more attention than me, so probably Berlin !!

Date who you want to date. Create a social circle that embraces both of you. Then you won't have to worry about what other people think.

That said, this will definitely be easier to accomplish in a major metro area where people are too busy to give a fuck about what others are doing.

I've never encountered to slightest bit of racism in London. All venues seem to be totally integrated with guys from every corner of the earth and everyone seems to like it that way. Probably the most international city on earth.

+1, agreed with MacKinsey. There's racism everywhere. I can speak on my own experiences being a minority. Yes, I even experienced some of this living in San Francisco in the past. (Do not want to go into details). Now in the LA area, it's one big segregated city. But you know what though, You can't make everyone to like you. You can't like everyone either. Learn to accept it and move on.

There is no such thing as racial minority. icon_rolleyes.gif Yellows (east asians) are actually the majority in the world right now.

The irony is that "minority" countries are the most racist and xenophobic.

No such city exists. Gays are people after all.

My theory is that in very diverse, ethnically heterogeneous cities, there is more racial tension, segregation, and racism in general, and in cities with less ethnic minorities, there is less.

Speaking from experience, and observation. I've experienced more prejudice in big, bright diverse New York than in the tiny, kind of hick-ish (tbh) Jersey Shore gay scene. Also, the Montreal scene was more inclusive than New York as well.

Of course, my experience is limited (I need to travel more). Just my observations.

^^Agreed. So far, in my experience, the bigger the gay scene, the more segregated it is. I got more ass in Spokane WA in one weekend than in San Fran over 4 visits. Gay media has done a good job of pushing the bear and hitler youth looks, which generally only white or middle eastern men can pull off.

Seattle is pretty good though. West coast cities are generally better since there's less "old money" and immigrants have a disproportionate chunk of the new wealth, so there's no economic prejudice at least.

I gotta agree with cities out west being less racist than a lot of America. I used to live in Seattle and San Diego and now live in New Orleans. The South is way more racist than the West coast.

You see a lot more interracial couples and platonic frienships out West. My best friend in Seattle was Indonesian.

I've only been to NYC/Chelsea once for a week time frame so I can't say about the NY scene. SF/LA I lived in both, I noticed that people from a certain racial background, they hang out together and if you cross the *color** barrier, then people stare at you and start asking *questions. I've been to numerous *Club Dragon (Asian nights) and Club Fuego/Latin (Esta Noche) nights. Lol, What I discovered is that Most/All gay guys are the same. They all want to get hit on and hook up with a cute dude. At least on the west coast, there's more choices for you. There's certain nights to go if you're into certain men (ex, Middle eastern - Thursday !@ Club Nur). So I still think having a diverse mixed gay population is still better than a very homogemous scene. As for the original question by OP, Atlanta and Los Angeles come to mind since both cities have a large African-American population. Just my observation.

About the west coast being less racist than the rest of America, would San Francisco perhaps be somewhat of an exception?

I think DC, Philly, NYC, Atlanta, deep south, Houston, Detroit, St. Louis

no where on the west coast has all that significant AA population cept for maybe Oakland

How does a city having a large black population make its gays less racist? icon_neutral.gif

Even the most westernized minority guys will have an easier time in small towns than in big gay scenes, in my experience.

The biggest testament that this is a gay issue is the number of minorities I know in real life and online who mentioned having better luck attracting hot girls when back when they were "straight"
