At my high school in the 1970s, wearing anything green on a Thursday meant you were queer. There was no basis for it and in fact nobody actually believed it; it was just a popular gag people played to make fun of anybody who forgot and wore green on a Thursday.

Apparently this was very widespread at high schools across America in the 1950s. And at my small town Ohio school, the 1950s lasted well into the 70s.

A woman I used to work with told me at her high school on the Mexican side of the Rio Grande Valley, the number 41 (cuarenta y uno) had homosexual implications. Any time the students had to line up and count off, whoever ended up being number 41 was razzed relentlessly.

Has anyone heard of these myths? Any idea where they came from? Was there anything else like it at your school?
