to Columbus this weekend. Remember though, the Festival is Friday and Saturday, NOT Sunday.

    http://www.columbusunderground.com/victorian-village-and-short-north-the-queers-are-coming-gs1

"June is Pride Month. Columbus Pride is June 20th and June 21st, and Columbus shows up in force.

In fact, a big chunk of the Midwest does too: we expect between 500,000 and 750,000 people to show up for the Stonewall Center’s Pride Festival this weekend. There are a lot of Pride road-trippers, and Columbus is a premiere Pride destination."

"Not Just For Gay and Transgender People

Now, Pride is a family affair. Happy families with children will be marching alongside community organizations and the famously awesome dykes on bikes.

Pride is a colorful circus of diversity and fun.

This year we need people who don’t necessarily identify as gay or transgender to show up. With all of our recent victories, people who are offended by our existence will be out in force. They’ll be on the sidelines of the parade, with their hateful signs and bullhorns.

Basically, we need you to march or help us out at our table.

I mean. Who wouldn’t want to march in a parade featuring George Takei? Oh, myyy.

We’ve got plenty of room and plenty of need. It’s fast, fun, and free. You’ll probably get a cool Pride t-shirt out of it too.

Marching in a Pride parade or volunteering at a booth is a rite of passage for gay and transgender people – but most especially, for our straight, supportive allies.

Marchers at last year’s Columbus Pride practicing marches and getting pumped to drown out protestors.
There are two great local organizations that need your help.

First, Equality Ohio educates and advocates on behalf of the gay and transgender community in Ohio. You can sign up to march or work the table here. We’ll meet a little early to practice chants. They’ll teach you everything you need to know.

Second, TransOhio educates and advocates specifically on behalf of the trans* community in Ohio. They need marchers – trans* and gender nonconforming people, friends, family, allies – everyone is welcome to show trans* pride and support for the Ohio trans* community in all its diversity. To hang with TransOhio this Pride, email rashida@transohio.org for more information."

I've never been to a homosexual festival in Columbus, but I find this number a little hard to believe.

"In fact, a big chunk of the Midwest does too: we expect between 500,000 and 750,000 people to show up for the Stonewall Center’s Pride Festival this weekend. There are a lot of Pride road-trippers, and Columbus is a premiere Pride destination."

If true, wouldn't that make it the largest homosexual festival in country?

If even half of that were out-of-towners, were the hell do they park? We have nowhere near that quantity of parking near Goodale Park.

I have heard about the awesome Pride festivities offered by Columbus. That is why it doesn't make any logical sense why Ohio's capital city is never listed as a top gay travel destination. Columbus is a very gay friendly city with a lot to offer. It is time for all the coast huggers to come to Columbus and also check out the rest of the beautiful, scenic Midwest. Time for them to leave costly, tired San Francisco and other gay ghettos behind and discover the "real America".

We can get 200,000 - 250,000 in that same park for Cum Fest the following weekend so maybe so, but if those numbers are correct for the homosexual festival, I think that queerly would make it the largest in the country. I'm sure it isn't though.

I haven't been to a homosexual festival since 2010 in Long beach for what must have been my 27th or 28th consuckutive year. I do almost all summer outdoor festivals so maybe if a few of my gym buddies will go, I'll go.

Except none of them can drink quite yet, which would drive their nuts, well, nuts. Next year bois ... then they can get drunk and stoopid like the rest of them

Columbus PRIDE is actually known as one of the LARGEST Pride celebrations in the US.....and I believe the numbers....Just about EVERY hotel room around is sold out!.....The city is PACKED with party goers and gays from all over! I think they say the only event in Columbus bigger than PRIDE is "RED, WHITE and BOOM!" for Indepenence day.....And That is between 800000 and 1 million in town for the festival.....Even bigger than a home OSU football weekend...just NOT as much damage.

Red white and boom is about 300,000 to 500,000. I'm there every year for that and there's no way there's 800,000 there for that.

Many gay pride festivals traditionally have wildly inflated attendance numbers because there is no oversight. Those attendance numbers are more like what Red White and Boom generate and are verifiable estimates by local law enforcement.

Also I lived in Columbus most of my life and found it to be not be gay friendly which is why I moved to Florida. icon_smile.gif

I'm a CRE broker and know pretty well how much parking we have in CBD, Arena and Short North and number of hotel rooms. No way on 500,000 - 750,000. I even doubt some of the 300,000 numbers I hear. 150,000 - 200,000 is more like it.

I find Columbus too gay and that's why I want to get back out to LA.

I mostly agree. Columbus is not gay unfriendly or even close to antigay, but was better back in the days of the Kismet, Eagle and Garage in the 70s and 80s.

I have a hard time believing that Jacksonville is better, but things change and I haven't been to Jacksonville for years so I really can't say.

So sorry....your reference is (my sincere apology) 4 years old and even then, the low numbers you site don't agree with your own reference.

Your attempted insult.....really? is that it?...."You fat pathetic ephebophile."? So classless and tacky..."punk?"...LOL!.... any troll with a dictionary can string this type of lying, nonsensical, unsupportable drivel together. And really!....THREATS of implied violence and injury to me on a public webpage, over this? Wow....just remarkably bad judgement being displayed by you....How childish. I stand by my original comments.... disagreeable, troll, bitter queen that alienates everyone.

As for this quote....."Your self hatred"

'That' one again ... first place a homo like you goes when they disagree with someone.
I DID NOT SAY IT. There was another in the mix that you conveniently missed.......and you were just in a rush to attack me....

Lets just say that Columbus Pride will be well attended by many 100's of thousands....and set another record for attendance like it constantly does.
Hope all the GAYNESS in town doesn't bother or tempt you back to the other side. Have a great weekend![/quote]

As I said punk, face to face, anywhere anytime. You started this little insult war so be a man instead of what you are.

And I stand by my response, punk, "You fat pathetic ephebophile. You got any shit you want to say to my face, punk, that can happen within 15 - 20 minutes anywhere in Columbus so why not shut your pie hole while you still can."

Reread your second post in this thread if you have any further questions and then tell me who attacked who.

"Wow....just remarkably bad judgement being displayed by you....How childish"

Who started it? Again, your second post. You really really think I'm not going to respond? Seriously?

As always, if you don't like it, then don't start it.

You mean that they will end up at the wrong festival? Why not try to do both. One of the two weekends will end up as rainout as this IS the midwest. So try for two and hope that you get one ... or even part of one. I'll be at both.

From reading the comments below the article, it looks like a few folks weren't so happy about the original 'Queers Are Coming' part of the title, so it was changed.

    Edit:

Looks the entire article was changed out behind the same link. What I had quoted in the first two links was what it was and now it isn't what it was.
