I know summer time is when kids could be... well kids. You experience a lot of things, meet a lot of great people, grow as a person, grow in life etc.

I used to skateboard around with a group of guys as a youngin. I was also in a band with them and played shows in the summer. We were like a mix of Red Hot Chili Peppers, Rage Against The Machine, & Stevie Wonder. I played bass, and sometimes played guitar. I played really fast slap bass and always seemed to get a mosh pit going icon_lol.gif

I would also go play football with my school mates as well. 102 Degree days playing football and getting sunburnt as hell.

What are some fond summer memories you have? icon_biggrin.gif

    NO SCHOOL !

We had a huge house, with a big, long, wide porch, along the front. I loved sitting out there during a thunderstorm. Great special effects. LOL.

Being awakened in a tent by a brilliant Aurora Borealis. We were exhausted from the previous day but stayed up near to dawn just to watch.

Bonfire parties on North Avenue Beach in Chicago. The cops rarely enforced curfew in the parks back then. We'd stay til sunrise and go out for breakfast almost every weekend.

Ahh! another good one that regards a guy i liked. There was a guy on a rival football team i had a thing for. He was also a Japanese guy and we always said horrible things to each other in Japanese.

One time when me and another guy were skateboarding. We actually came across him and his brother and they started stuff with us for no reason... and got into a huge fist fight. Lots of blood and cuts... but we became good friends after i whooped on him icon_smile.gificon_redface.gif sadly he was straight though! boys will be boys.

Going off the best rope swing on the lake at my family's summer home. You would have to get in line with all the local kids. We called them river rats because they were always there and so much better than us. And you would try to do the best back flip you could. And some skinny kid would do a double flip. But they were always cool and would grab the rope as it swung in for the next guy, us or them.

I used to do that every once in awhile as a kid. I was always really crappy at doing flips or anything cool! we would go to a lake outside our town. People would smoke pot there and swim... i didn't smoke pot. And i could barely swim at the time icon_lol.gif

Hm so many fond memories of summer. Some events stood out the most.

Summer of 2003 - I took 2 summer classes at UCB/Cal. I stayed there and just hung out. The campus was like so calm and peaceful. I just enjoyed the off-on school experience I guess.

Summer of 2006 - I dated a guy on and off in LA, we broke up though. This was during the World Cup 2006 (Germany). Ahh, bad and good memories of Jeremy.

Summer 2009-2010-2011 - Hung out with my ex-bf in San Francisco. We went to Sonoma, Oakland, San Jose, traveled all over the bay area and we went to several nude beaches.

Summer of 2011 - My cousin got Married in SoCal.

Summer of 2012 - My best friend got married in SoCal.

(I love going to Huntington, Newport, Laguna beach in OC for the summer. Santa Monica/Venice in LA).

I never smoked pot there either. I assume some of the young guys do now. We just drink beers. I still do backflips. One and a half's. Same as my brothers and our friends. Play some tunes, park the party boat off shore, swim in and teach the youngins how to swing. Though now they are schooling us, but no worries, I learned from my uncles, It gets passed on...

Good summer memories for me as a kid would include:
    * Being finally allowed to fly places alone.
    * Taking myself on a 40 mile bike hike without anyone missing me or knowing where I was all those hours (at 13).
    * Swimming pool weather, learning advanced swimming & diving.
    * A ton of travel while school was out every year.
    * Hanging out with friends and having relatively no cares / worries / responsibilities.

Growing up on a grain farm (no animals except pets), Spring, Summer and Fall were always busy times. The year always began in April when dad and I would build this huge bonfire to sterilize an area that would later become the seed bed for the vegetables. Later Spring was consumed with preparing the fields for planting. Late Spring early Summer was all about cultivating, keeping the weeds down. Usually along about July 4th, the crops would be tall enough to pretty much take care of themselves and we'd have a few weeks when there wasn't that much to do. It was hot, sultry, languid, true *Summertime*.

My favorite things (in no particular order, and it varied with different ages of my childhood): Running naked in the rain; Going skinny dipping with friends in my dad's pond; Watching thunderstorms; Setting off fire works; Eating watermelon; Meeting my friends late at night (didn't get dark till late) and doing some *very* interesting things with them icon_twisted.gif ; Performing naked private rituals in the fields under a full moon when the air temperature was around 80°; Playing games like 'hide n seek' or 'kick the can' or one a group of us made up that we called 'enemy car'; A group of us boys being taken on camping trips by my dad down near the Ohio river where we'd run trotlines at night, catching fish we put in a barrel to stock the pond; Driving around at night with my friends half naked with the windows rolled down listening to rock and roll, going to the drive in for double-decker 'Scotsburgers', fries and a coke; Watching horror films at the drive-in theatre. Summer was always awesome.

And I miss it! icon_sad.gif It almost *never* feels like summer here in the Bay Area by comparison. Seldom gets above 80° and even then it cools off fast as soon as the sun goes down. No thunder storms *ever*. As a kid and teenager I got as close to naked as I could (and sometimes completely so) and stayed that way as much as possible. I was always as brown as a berry. Here's me and my dog, age 7ish? I don't know…

    1935689_1233604569822_370115_n.jpg

And another pic with some neighbor kids (I'm in the middle). The older boy and I had a 'thing' going on icon_twisted.gif He wasn't and we weren't the only ones, either, farm boys being farm boys and all.

And, yeah, we really were that dirty pretty much all the time. Always rolling in the dirt. But, hey, we always washed our hands before supper and took a bath once a week whether we needed one or not!

Our holidays in France with my relatives ..
When i turned 12 and by brother 10 , every summer (until I started university ) , my parents would ship us to my paternal grand-parents in France for a month , i never did fancy France's climate as it was winter over-there but summer in Australia . What was the best part of the holiday ,was the flights . In the late 60's , we would fly from Townsville to Brisbane , then change aircraft and fly from Brisbane to Sydney , another change of aircraft from Sydney to London ( with a stop in Singapore and another one in Bahrain ) then another aircraft from London to Nice . It was 32 hours in the sky (36 with the layovers) , and i loved it .
The rest of the holiday wasn't so memorable , but i am glad my parents did that for us , it was interesting to practice a different language , discover how different life in Europe was , and gave me the love i have for everything made of metal that can fly ..icon_smile.gif
