I am naive to the significance of this. Could someone give me a brief explanation?

The Boy Scouts only recently allowed openly gay scouts. The article goes into more detail. I recommend that you read it.

This will be the first time that they will be allowed to be at a pride event. They still do not allow openly gay leaders so it is still controversial that they are at the parade.

Amazing! At our local Pride last Saturday there was actually a(1) protester this year, down from half a dozen or so last year.

While waiting for the parade to start, the girl standing next to me said, "It just doesn't seem like Pride without all the bible-thumpers screaming at us." icon_biggrin.gif

They were at LA Pride. It is the first time that I have seen them there...but I have not been in many years.

We had a very small number of NARROW MINDED BIBLE THUMPING SCREWBALLS at the Buffalo Pride parade on June 1st. The cops were keeping a stern watch on them this year in case they got too loud and too in your face with their stupid opposition.

Even the right-wing thumpers and screamers have pretty much died out in the "comments" section of the Seattle papers. A dying breed? We can hope so.

To add a bit more onto this BSA recently allowed gay youth to be in their programs, however, openly gay (or lesbian) adults cannot be a member/leader.

This has lead to many cries for injustice and arguments back and forth between BSA, human rights groups and the Scouts Sponsors.

The result, several of Boy Scouts Sponsors have backed out of their funding of the program, including Disney, Nike and several others.

Eventually they will realize... "Hey, these people have been in our groups for generations without being open about it, and there was not cataclysmic event, no ones been dying and such... Maybe we're over reacting and allowing the church sponsors to ruin a very important youth program." and they'll fix things.

Scouts Canada is the exact opposite in the matter, they're 100% inclusive and they're no worse for wear. Our youth have been involved in Pride for over a decade, and the newer groups and medical venturers (scouts who do first response) are involved in the events as well.

Here in New Orleans the fanatics show up with their bullhorns and huge banners for all sorts of holidays: Mardi Gras, Gay Pride, Southern Decadence, etc. And I always ask as few if they honestly thought they could convert anyone to their way of thinking by yelling at them with hate. Not a one can give me a good answer because there isn't one.
