PrEP would not be needed if everyone who was HIV positive were compliant with treatment, regardless of condoms.

    I like the blog post.
    I like the site.

Very enlightened viewpoint on a very controversial topic.

I'm saddened that I'm only part of 25% of HIV+ people who are effectively adhering to my treatment regimen. I keep a set of meds with me no matter where I go (just in case). I miss a dose, the virus may mutate and I may die sooner rather than later. I've got a lot to lose by not adhering to my treatment regimen.

I can only imagine the level of adherence to PrEP regimen given that HIV- guys have not had the first hand "scare" of learning that they are HIV+ and could die from the exposure. If HIV- guys are going to "kind of be on PrEP", then they may be fooling themselves into a false sense of invincibility when they're riding on a spermy dick.

In an article I read Truvada (PrEP or ART) is more forgiving than that. 95% usage is ideal for ART. And after being on PrEP for say 6 months, if you miss a day or two (not regularly!) there is an accumulated or residual effect.

I missed 3 days when I was on a cruise (damn 2X a day pills!) no problem, short or long term. But I'm typically 100%.

I think a VAST majority of the people on ART Therapy are adhering to the regimen. 25% is the total percentage of Gay Men on ART Therapy. There needs to be more....90% at least.

"18% of people who are positive are unaware that they have contracted the disease. Of those who do know they are positive, 66% are linked to care and only 37% are retained in care. Overall, 75% of people living with HIV do not have undetectable viral loads."

I've heard stats of 25% don't know. 25% are on successful repressed ART and the remainder are either just starting ART (still with a high V load, but are working at it), don't know about it, don't trust it, can not tolerate the meds or are already too sick to be benefit.
