If your mayor hasn't added his signature, call your mayor's office and urge them to sign. http://www.freedomtomarry.org/pages/mayors-for-the-freedom-to-marry

Unfortunately Buffalo isn't on this list. However two depressed, red neck cities, Niagara Falls and Elmira are on this list. WTF.

Well, like I said.....CALL your mayor's office and tell them you expect your mayor to support equality. Hell, start a email campaign to your friends or a Facebook thread. It really does make a difference.

Yes, DC's mayor is on the list because marriage equality has been the law here for years. Interesting that the sky hasn't fallen like the conservative bigots swear will happen when gay marriage is made legal -- the reality in DC is that couples who wants to get married are able to do so, and everyone else minds their own business. Hey Republicans -- maybe you should think about minding your own business for a change. icon_biggrin.gif

Yep, mine's on the list. But then he's the gay Mayor of Wilton Manors, Florida, our Gay Central, pretty much a given.

My Mayor is the chair of the group! I live in Houston, the largest city in the world with an out mayor, and she recently married her long time partner (not in Texas, of course.) Hope this changes your view of what Texas is like...

The thread is about mayors that support marriage equality. Sexual orientation shouldn't matter as long as they support equality, right? My comment was said partly joking, but also because I've never felt very accepted in Houston unless I'm in the Montrose of course. Otherwise, Houston is a very conservative city in general.

No, it reinforced my negative view. (And I lived in Texas for years).

It's a conservative city in some ways but it respects competence and rewards it. Annise Parker proved her ability as city controller and so when she ran for mayor her well-known status as an out Lesbian was never an issue.
Isn't it the other way around in New Orleans? A liberal city that until post-Katrina could hardly care less about competence much less honesty?

Yes, that's pretty much on the mark. There was a ridiculous amount of corruption before Katrina. And there's still corruption, as in all cities, but much less than before.

This isn't a competition you know. It should not be an insult to you personally when I say Houston seems conservative to me.

The mayor of STL Missouri is on the support list...the mayor of KCMO is possibly on the list; I read the local Republican-supported rag here (KC Star) & well, the rest follows...

I can just see the divorce rates go up & ½-ass lawyers getting rich; my prior experiences of dealing with unfaithful men have left me with an ever-devolving stance against same-sex marriage. I'm almost certain my mayor has gotten enough phone calls from those who want it that bad, it just hasn't been any from me...

    My $0.02...

You may be surprised to know that infidelity is just as high in hetero relationships. Are you against opposite-sex marriage, too?

No it doesn't because what Houston has is a total fluke. Your out lesbian mayor from what I heard is a big lapdog for corporate business and both she and Gov. Rick "the dumb dick" Perry are bound and determined to make Houston the corporate headquarters capital of the US. Granted Houston and its Harris County suburbs are tolerant of gay men which is a major improvement over the rest of the lone star shithole of Texas, the true fact remains that Texas will never really change and it will always be a red, republican state governed by NARROW MINDED BIBLE THUMPING SCREWBALLS. Austin is also tolerant of gay men but don't equate tolerance with gay friendly because there is a lot of homophobia along with xenophobia and racism in both Houston and Austin. As for San Antonio, Fort Worth, and Dallas forget about it, gays are confined to the central business districts and bordering neighborhoods in those three cities. You guys in Texas need to face harsh reality and get out of your fantasyland that Texas is changing and becoming more purple or swing state. It will never happen so stop fooling yourselves. If you want gay friendly and progressive environments than you all are going to have to permanently abandon Texas and move to other states.

Denver Mayor Hancock gave a wonderful speech at our pride festival this year. He has always been a great supporter. And Colorado Governor Hickenlooper. Not a shabby place to be icon_smile.gif

Maybe, just maybe, those two cities aren't quite as "depressed" or "red neck" [sic] as you imagine them to be.

Nice to see SD's GOP Mayor Kevin Faulconer on the list, just as his GOP predecessor Jerry Sanders was.

Corporations are the very thing that's ruining this country. At this point, we are being ruled by corporations....not government.
