I for one applaud his intent. I'll look forward to the action. I've heard that there is a rampant problem in New York City - that's not an accusation but just a restatement of what I've heard over and over again but unverified. IF it's true then this would be a great thing IF they can get people to use it.

kind of a dumb thing to say - only a politician would use this kind of rhetoric

is he going to end flu also? I applaud his efforts, but that statement is just stupid

Not half as dumb (and I assume you mean stupid, as he's not "dumb") as sitting back and criticizing someone who actually INTENDS to DO something! icon_rolleyes.gif

The posters that Andrew plastered all over the NYC subway system for his dad Mario during his bid for NYC Mayor read:

"Vote for Cuomo, not the homo".

Now, I roll my eyes as much as the next guy when politicians have a self-serving sudden "change of heart" on an issue. But at the same time, it's important to give people people the space to change and grow and evolve over time. I certainly don't believe the same things now that I believed just a couple of years ago!
But we really shouldn't hold a campaign poster from 1977 against the governor.

do what? give everyone "at risk" $13,000 worth of drugs every year (for the rest of their lives) and proclaim "problem solved" while people run around barebacking everyone in site on the down low.

yeah that sounds like a plan - his comment was stupid and ignorant

I am surprised you are being so tame in your assessment.

Merely calling His comments stupid seems generous on your part.

    Copernicus was called a heretic.

The names assigned to Madame Curie, Dr. Jonas Salk and Dr. Mathilda Krim were just as cynical and angry.

Are you under the impression that the aids virus CAN'T be eliminated?

We seemed to figure out small pox, polio and COUNTLESS strains of the flu.

It is SUPREMELY arrogant to think that just because WE don't have all the answers to a cure right now - that it means something can't be cured.

The aids virus is not about bare-backing and leather and poppers and Guyliner and backrooms and free drink tickets.

No more than the Black plague was.

    Or the Spanish flu.

    Or the common cold.

It is a disease - one that decimated My life on MANY levels so choose yer words VERY wisely if you choose to respond to this.

We can and WILL stop this.

And if a Politician has BALLS big enuff to say We will eradicate something that robbed the world of some of the greatest talents, spirits and Minds of an entire generation - I KNOW I am willing to listen.

    ^^

oh right - thousands of people and tens of billions of dollars are involved in HIV research, but it's Cuomo who has a "plan" to end AIDS - riiiiiiiiiiiight

some of these politicians say some really stupid shit

he should have said reduce HIV infection rates

saying "ending AIDS" is pure rhetorical hubris - and it's dishonest

New York City hasn't even ended measles and there's a vaccine

We actually have everything we need RIGHT NOW to end AIDS. And yes, it is thanks to the hard work of a lot of people and a lot of money.
Notice, neither I no r Cuomo has said "cure" AIDS. But there is a big difference between ending it in a generation and curing it. All we need to do is stop any new infections. And we already have the tools for it. Testing everyone, early treatment of everyone who is infected, continuing to preach condoms and PrEP combined could eliminate ALL new infections. So after a generation AIDS would be gone.

But you know what one of the biggest barriers to this is? Moralizing, slut shaming jerks.

Did you even read the article?

Governor Andrew M. Cuomo today announced a three-point plan to “bend the curve” and decrease new HIV infections to the point where the number of people living with HIV in New York State is reduced for the first time. The end of the AIDS epidemic in New York will occur when the total number of new HIV infections has fallen below the number of HIV-related deaths.
