What's with Cosplay?

I used to think anime was just for Asian girls, but I'm seeing tons of white people dress up as all sorts of obscure characters that I have a hard time imagining they'd know. I'd get it if it was a reason to become a sexier version of themselves (just saw pictures of a shirtless muscular Link), and that cosplay conventions are just for people to hook up with each other w fetishes already included... but what I also see is many otherwise normal people, one of my friends included, are really big on this but with faithful renditions of their costumes (no extra sexiness). Some of their costumes aren't sexy at all. What's the point??

I've explored caves on vacations, but never considered living in one.

    What's it like?

Cosplay is like Halloween. It's an excuse for some people to show their slutty side, without being called slutty. icon_lol.gif

Anime is for anyone and over the years, has accumulated so many fans of different races/orientations/etc. All cosplay is, is about dressing in your favorite character and meeting with other like-minded invidivudal. Usually, this is done at anime conventions. It's really rare for a person to dress up in cosplay 24/7 lol.

Now, it is true that some anime fans dress in cosplay to show their bodies off, this is especially known with the controversial "Game boot girls". The stereotype about them is that they just dress as a character to draw attention to the game but don't have any knowledge of who the character they are dressing up as.

Anyway, what's the point? Simple. To have fun.

It's all about creative imagination and fantasy.

I see nothing wrong with cosplay. If more people would just loosen their sphincters and allow themselves to play like children, I think our world would be a much less anxious and much more happy place.

I already get the showing off the body part, but just don't see the fun in it, that's all haha. Do people only have one costume that they wear all the time to the conventions, or do they have many? Where do they store it all?

    I get this:

    But I don't get this:

the bottom pic is from some japanese comedy manga about a guy wearing a bodythong thing and save his girl or something. it's one of those japanese anime/manga with a weird sense of humor. I saw a trailer for that some time ago but I can't remember.

also note that the conventions/cosplays from Japan and in USA is different because of the anime/video game demographics. There are anime that are more known in Japan than in USA, and therefore likely more people to cosplay it. And then there are anime that were never aired on USA and most people wouldn't know it, unless someone sub it or scanlate it.

Also, not all costumes are shirtless or showing bodies. Though there are some hilarious ones like the one with a bunch of (kind of gay) guys dressing up as Pokemon or something. Then you have some cosplay that people dye their hair, make their own fake weapon, and craft their costume to look like some melee magical asskicking demonslaying zombiestomping character.

I mean, have you seen the cosplay for the swimming anime Free? icon_razz.gif And then u have some cosplay for like League of Legends or Pokemon or Sword Art Online (or some other ones that I don't know cause Im behind in anime) where people actually cover themselves.

^ well I wouldn't say "weird" sense of humor. since USA have puritanical influence and Japan doesn't, Japan might be more open-minded with "showing skin-humor"

I just feel sorry for the guy on the left when he runs into the guy on the right at the convention:

actually, it is fun because the muggles, treat you like a celebrity all day, you get to be FAMOUS for a bit. It is addictive, if you are good enough of a costume builder.

As far as storage...it takes a lot. Like 20' rooms.
