Well, if you know nothing about your mother's father then no, there's no way to tell that I know of. Don't worry, I'll still love ya. icon_wink.gif

It skips a generation. So if your father is bald and your grandfather is not, then consider yourself lucky. icon_biggrin.gif

I'm not getting bald. I just want to know if there are any signs that say someone is gonna get bald in the future. I heard that if you're hairy you have more chances of getting bald or something.

Or let the hair grow out on the sides to accentuate the bald spot.

As I recall, the same hormonal shifts that trigger male pattern baldness, or whatever they're calling it now, also trigger an increase in body hair. I don't know whether this also indicates a predictive correlation, but if so I would think it would be relatively weak.

As already indicated, the "mother's father" indicator is the only reliable predictor; a man is by far most likely to have the same balding patterns (or lack thereof) as his maternal grandfather. If that is unknown, then there isn't really any way of being sure until one starts shedding.

If you're concerned about your own hair, be sure to maintain healthy intakes of quality protein, B-complex vitamins (I think B12 and niacin are supposed to be important), and healthy oils (the essential omegas found in fish, olive oil, avocados, etc.). I started too late, but I've been pretty happy using Nioxin to slow the process somewhat. Apparently scalp health and stress both play significant roles in the timing and rate of hair loss, so as always, maintaining a healthy lifestyle is probably the best approach.

The only sure way to know is to call the psychic hotline. Or you can just beat mother nature to the punch and shave your head now.

Well if you notice that you're going bald you could take a trip to see a hair specialist, I might cost you for treatment that prevents further balding.

As for not knowing whether you'll go bald or not it;s something you will have to find out the hard way unfortunately.

But embrace it if you can, there many like you out there if you're suffering the onset of baldness.

It's funny when there is a wonder drug to treat a problem people create a taboo around it due to a minute chance of terrible side effects, as if other common drugs were devoid of risks. I've seen it with Accutane. How curious that Finasteride hasn't been mentioned so far in this thread...

Biotin is the best way to fight baldness. Also, eat a lot of protein.

I think baldness definite cause is unknown other than genes and hormone. You will know if the hair line is increasing from your forehead time after time. The other type starts on the top sides which is s bit aggressive since hair falls much each time you wake up which is happening to my co-worker at the age of 27. He drunk too much tablets for maintenance, intially, plenty strands fall then grow again with thickness but when he stopped taking, the effect devastated him to the point of acceptance. Otherwise, if baldness is a problem means there are plenty of solutions. All you have to do is to invest as treatment advances means expensive.

The adult male hairline is usually a bit higher than an adolescent one. So some receding is normal into our 30s. If it continues you may have accelerated hair loss.

I once read, not sure of the legitimacy, that if your hair hasn't thinned or receded much by your late 30s then you'll likely keep your hair into your 60s. The guys you see bald in their 40s & 50s probably were noticeably thinning in their 20s.

Actually that also has a lot to do with our hair. Bald or bushy, depends on what turns the other guy on. icon_wink.gif

I wonder what that would mean for someone who has always had thin hair. My hair hasn't thinned because it always was thin (inherit from my mum) so fingers crossed it doesn't go thinner lol.
