    He should be honored. He was openly gay and he started the "HIGH FIVE" greeting that so many people use. Tommy Lasorda hated him because Lasorda's son was gay and died of AIDS. People all love Lasorda but he was a rabidly homophobic. I met him in his old age. He was a sad old man.

    How do people feel about Ian Thorpe? He really is a nothing on the international stage anymore. And as recently as 2012 he was still saying he was straight in his autobiography. As far as I am concerned, he had a chance to make a statement. He worked being straight for all the endorsements that he could get, now he wants to jump on the gay train. I don't like it. It sounds like opportunism. When we needed him, he was not there. Now he needs us. Just my thoughts.

    You all are forgetting Billy Bean hes gay and he was a baseball player.
