That's the name of a current British TV sitcom. Starring Sir Ian McKellen and Sir Derek Jacobi, as 2 old queens living together. Their bitchy banter is a hoot. We just saw it for the first time tonight, aired in this area on PBS.

You likely know McKellen from his role as Gandalf in the Lord of the Rings movies, though Jacobi is less well known to US movie audiences. Both are renowned Shakespearean actors, and to see the 2 of them clowning it up is such a change of pace, and a treat. But I've always said British actors are the most versatile in the world, and can play anything.

Both of them are gay in real life, too, and out. I always feel better when a gay character is played by a real gay actor.

In tonight's episode they went to a new nightclub, the overall storyline being about aging.

McKellen, as they look around the place: "Look, there's somebody older than us."

    Jacobi: "That's a mirror."

A straight friend at their table: "What kind of a club is it, anyway? I see boys and girls, and boys and boys, and girls and girls."

McKellen: "I have no idea. Ever since they came out with lesbians who aren't plain and misshapen I've been confused."

    I love Brit humor. icon_biggrin.gif
