lol what lousy propaganda - almost all of Russia's rich are in energy related sectors

That's why the Germans, French and Italians never say boo about Russia.

The French are continuing their Mistral ship sale to Moscow even under US and UK protest. Without Russia, Europe is dead.

Vladimir Putin needs to be taken out or Russia will become a hostile nation-state hell bent on invading and annexing its neighbors. This could spark the beginning of WW3. The situation in Syria could also help spark a third world war.

that's nonsense too, it wasn't Putin who helped overthrow the democratically-elected government in Kiev 18 months ago, it was the US and the UK - which led to all this mess

Yep. And this is exactly what US-Chinese relations will look like if things don't change.

I think the OP is right. I also think this is a situation where I'd be overjoyed to admit I'm wrong if I am.

But....you know what I am thinking?

    Population control, power, etc.

I don't think they care anymore at times if anyone
buys oil or iphones. I think it's a power deal. Is
that an insanity issue at 61 for Putin? It's ODD!

Defiant Putin warns the West not to use MH17 tragedy for 'selfish political ends', as Ukraine accuses Russia of spiriting away shrapnel-hit bodies to avoid implicating rebels

Russia is on the brink of recession, while the rest of Europe is well on the way to economic recovery. Putin is already on the back foot and it isn't going to take much to knock him over, as the Russian economy continues to contract and sanctions continue to bite. I could see him going down in a coup, which would be pretty chaotic, but I don't think anyone is going to start lobbing nukes around. Given that the Soviet Union disintegrated in a matter of months, without any threat of nuclear conflict, I'm not sure why anyone thinks Putin's demise or even the break-up of the Russian Federation as it stands would herald WW3.
