Imbalance when alternating grip on pull-pus

I have only a straight bar for pullups at home, so I have tried to mix it up by doing overhand, underhand, and one hand each way. I noticed when doing the latter that I'm a lot stronger one way than the other, and in fact last nite one way (left hand under) was actually uncomfortable in the area of my elbow.

Not sure what changed, as I do this pretty often and do work with light kettleballs and stuff to stay flexible and know my limits.

Although a pretty skilled trainer showed me this move, I'm wondering if it is structurally not a good idea (or maybe just for me) and that's what my body's trying to tell me.

I have always done them over-handed, only.
One hand each way sounds like a recipe for injury...
