What gave you the final push to come out of the closet?

For me, it was the fear of losing my sister. Her and I were drifting apart because I was too busy sneaking around on dates, making sure we were not at the same place at the same time. She told me she felt like she was losing me and that's when I came clean.

What gave you the final push?

I was worried that I was going to be outed by a friend. So before he could tell everyone I went ahead and contacted everyone close to me and told them one-on-one. Best decision I ever made.

Thanks for making this thread. It's nice to hear how others came out, it'll help me with my process.

I truly wish you the best. When you have a chance, read the thread regarding coming out later in life. The main consensus in that thread along with most of the older men I've spoken to on that topic is they never understood why it took them so long to come out in the first place and most wish they would have done it sooner. I come out at 20. Even at that young age I still wonder why I couldn't have done it soon. You really don't start to live until you are 100% honest with yourself and the people you love. That is why to this day I celebrate my birthday as well as the day I came out

I got to a point where I was just tired of lying about who I really was and not being able to be myself. Told my friends and parents. Funny thing is, told my best friend and roomie, his response was 'I know, I'm gonna hook you up with one of my other gay friends'. Life was so easy after that

I came out when my boyfriend and I got serious. At that point I would not hide him so I couldn't hide my sexuality either. Told my kids first. Like you said, wish I had done it much earlier. Zero negative repercussions except some hurt feelings that I hadn't trusted my good friends earlier.

I was 15, and in bed, in my room, in the middle of the afternoon, with my best friend from school. We were actively jacking each other when my mom walked in. She looked mildly surprised for all of a nanosecond, and then said (addressing my friend): "Andrew, I'll call your mom and tell her you're staying for dinner, honey."

And that was the beginning, and the end, of that "conversation."

And people wonder why I worship my parents.

wth! Why?... smh It was no slight whatsoever. Sorry if I offended you. What I read in your experience didn't sound devastating at all.

If you're holding a grudge, let it go...

I suck at holding grudges... I'm pretty good at finding those inflated by their posse on MOTD votes, though icon_smile.gif
