Number 1 Exporter of arms to this brilliant democracy: USA
Number 2 Exporter of arms to this brilliant democracy: United Kingdom
Number 3 Exporter of arms to this brilliant democracy: Germany

And we WONDER why we get laughed at when we mention "exporting democracy".

That's why I don't like supporting them by buying their oil. We all need to conserve and become more energy efficient. Why give our money to some human abusers! WHY??

So far as I am concerned, the Saudis are barbarians and should be treated as such.

I agree with you that many slashes can kill him.

As opposed to republicans kissing their feet?

Give me a break. The US needs to stop supporting a country where 98% of the population wants their rulers out.

Saudi Arabia's rulers are worthless much like all of the "so called " Arab royalty in the region. They suck up all of their country's resources and keep their population poor and stupid.

Sort of like what"s gong on now in certain "western countries".

It's a choice of supporting something that's bad over something that's even worse. Other countries in the region, such as Iran, execute gay people.

The extremists have an ugly, destructive culture -- one that makes right-wing Christianity seem benign by comparison.

450 lashes will kill a man. It's essentially a death sentence. It is the twenty-first century and there are still cultures living in ignorance.

I find your post to be distastefully inappropriate and extremely insensitive. Trivializing a matter that could result in a man's agonizing death with a cartoon is just awful.

I was VERY surprised to see this coming from DEKIRUM. It's disappointing.

According to what I've read, in some countries lashes are not administered all at the same time. They may administer 50 or so at a time and allow a few weeks or months for recovery between sessions. Even if that's what they do, it is still barbaric.

I earlier times, some Christians did the same sort of thing. People were burned alive at the stake. Then, there was the Catherine wheel; the victim was tied to the wheel and by using a hammer or similar instrument, his bones were broken between the spokes. Pincers were used to pull off pieces of flesh. The torture could go on for days before the victim died.

The basic problem is that some pious people think that they have a monopoly on truth and that they have a right to use any means available to force their beliefs onto others. I'm convinced that even now some Christians believe that and would act accordingly if they were able to do so. That explains why gay men and women in some African countries are being persecuted.

A more enlightened approach recognizes that there is much that we do not understand, that all of us have some mistaken beliefs, that God is concerned mainly with how we treat each other, and that we will not be condemned for a few mistaken beliefs.

In the article it states that this man will receive his 450 lashes over the course of fifteen sessions. This means he will get thirty lashings per session.

How "humane" of them to let you heal only to go through the ordeal 14 more times. It's beyond barbaric. I'd call them animals but that would be insulting to animals.

I love how people get all outraged when they do this sick shit in their country, but defend them under the guise of "religious freedom" when they try and bring their evil beliefs to our own country.

Its totally incomprehensible in this age that we allow this to happen. I agree with some of the comments the day we go completely off the grid and no longer dependent on their oil would be a day to celebrate. They are still living in the past and enslaving their own populations with this kind of mindless brutality.

Hopefully he family can plead for clemency of the sentence.

That's a laugh. His own family members would just as soon thrash him to death themselves in an "honor" killing.

    Barbaric goons.

It's hard to know exactly why people behave in such barbaric ways. Some have been brainwashed by the way their religious leaders interpret their religion and, because they are unable to think for themselves, really believe that they are doing the right thing. Others use barbaric behavior as a means to hang on to their power and influence. And others know better but lack the courage to stand up for justice.

I defend religious freedom. However, I will never defend barbaric behavior or using unjust or unfair means to attempt to force one's religious beliefs onto others.

Such barbaric behavior is not an essential part of Islam, just as burning people alive at the stake was never an essential part of Christianity. The vast majority of Muslims would not approve of such barbaric behavior but unfortunately, the media cover only the barbaric behavior and fail to give publicity to those Muslims who strongly object to barbaric behavior. The result is that a casual examination of the media results in a distorted view of Islam. That said, Islam is not my religion; it's just that I think that people should be permitted to believe anything they want to believe as long as their behavior is civilized, kind, loving, and responsible.
