Best way to get a thick neck

    I hate seeing a really well built guy with a pencil neck. I'm starting
    to do "Shrugs"...are there other exercises that are good for
    building a thick, strong bull neck?

    I'm crazy-mad for the 4-way neck machine but the only gym I ever used with one was a very hardcore Powerhouse:



    It affords a lot more stability, control and safety than head harnesses and wrestler's bridges.

    Wow, that's pretty cool...I wonder if there's a way I can simulate that at home without ending up in the emergency room...

    Search for head harness on google or amazon. It goes on your head and you use plates with it.

    Then you can bend over and do the bobbing motion with your head; the ol' up and down.

    I've seen the Nautilus neck machine.
    I've seen a redneck-rigged football helmet with a rod drilled to the top of it that you can put weights on and do neck exercises with.

    Can you really add muscle to your neck (not traps)?

    Or you can do the same movements on a bench (extension even on a mat) with towel between your head and the plates/weights.

    I hate my thin neck too.

    The ideas above are very good, but there is a simpler method.

    Find a small hole, like a foxhole, and stand in it. This will make it easier for a friend to use a large mallet and pound you on the top of the head as though driving a stake into the ground. Clench the neck muscles as the pounding continues for maximum exercise effect.

    You may wish to purchase aspirin in advance of this exercise.

    My method is waaaaaaaaay more fun: Find a partner with whom you can regularly give a bit of oral stimulation. While you are pleasuring him have him apply slight pressure to the back of your head as you are on the up stroke of the oral stimulation to his member. As you move down the member have him release the pressure and go deep. Hold for a second or two and move up again with slight pressure to your head. Repeat again and again and again and again and again until desired results are achieved for either or both participants.

    I wish my gym had a neck machine. I take a towel and lie a plate on my forehead and do reps like that. You can start out without the plate though and work your way up.

    I think you have to have the genetics to begin with. Like a corn fed nebraska dude that played football in high school. I think thick necks are hot too though

    Please shut up. This is a bodybuilding forum where men come to ask for advice and guidance on how to achieve their muscle building goals.

    Writing someone off as having "low self-perception" for asking a legitimate question on how to attain a goal is unkind. My guess is you're not professionally qualified to diagnose someone in this manner. And if you were you wouldn't be barking some erroneous label at a perfect stranger.


    hey dude, if u look at my quote closer I say "really guyS" plural, my comment isn't targeted at a specific individual it is more of a general statement based on a lot of postings I come across where guys have terrible self perception issues (i.e using the term "hate") in looking at themselves. especially when many guys already look perfectly fine. I was just insinuating that for many gay guys, they are their own worst enemies. wanting to improve is one thing, wanting to improve to measure up to an "ideal" is a whole other ball of wax. so yeah, "shutting up" now

    This is where choosing the training partner who is just right for you is important - you can't have one who is going to 'achieve his result' too soon and then you've got a mouthful of fun but your neck is still not worked out! icon_eek.gif
