icon_rolleyes.gif We used to have booklets with the obscene lyrics to all the Pac-10 school fight songs. The official lyrics are all excruciatingly lame. (I think I loaned mine to someone from Cal who was supposed to copy it and give it back, but never did...) I can only remember a couple of phrases. I don't recall any specific gay slurs, but a common theme was to cast aspersions on the other team's manhood, and suggest that the women on campus weren't getting proper attention. icon_rolleyes.gif
I'm sure it's been going on for at least a hundred years, everywhere.

Just a hundred years? Exactly this was going on when I went there so that puts it at least a couple hundred years.

I was prepared to defend their right to say what they want, but after reading that.....holy shit, those people really have issues. That's a whole lot of hate!

It's one of the reasons I had so little interest in OSU football except to go to the Rose Bowl and that only because it meant road trip. I really get sick of hearing it around here.

Amen to that. I went to OSU and had a great time there and enjoyed my area of study but I can proudly say that I NEVER went to an OSU Buckeye's game while I was in school and still haven't now that I've been out of school for about 5.5 years.

And thank goodness that Gordon Gee is no longer at OSU.

Was waiting for someone to point out the irony of a marching band making any comments about someone's sexuality.

What a very sad article to read. I should probably leave Ohio eventually. One day.

Takes me straight back (pun unintended) to childhood. This was what it was like everywhere I went. I was terrified of all this stuff, even though as a kid I wasn't really sure what it meant. I just knew it applied to me, and I was clearly persona non grata.

Fact is, this is still the way a LOT of people really feel. They won't admit it in public, but it's how they truly feel about LGBT people.

Yup, much like racism it has just fallen from favor in most circles to express it openly, but that doesn't change what is inside people.

I didn't go routinely, but did some UM games and always when they went to the Rose Bowl, but as I said, that was more of an excuse for a road trip.

I simply got burnout on OH ... IO

Yeah, this is why I left Columbus, all the rampant homophobia that most of the gays are still in denial about to this day. Growing up 2 miles from OSU and having a father who taught at OSU didn't help the matter.

I always imagined those marching bands to be quite gay-friendly, as they are pretty showy. They are so spot-on in their performances, you would think everyone would be too busy rehearsing, with no time for any shenanigans.
