The majority of Houston's population is most likely on these anti- gay petitions despite the fact that Houston has an openly lesbian mayor. Why would Houston be any different from the rest of backward, homophobic, xenophobic Texasicon_question.gif

pazzy saidthis is just downright wrong. no different than forcing somebody out the closet. even if someone is an asshole, this is not how you get back at them by invading their privacy, putting their names along with where they live.

Um, petition signatures are public record. If you don't want people to know what you're fighting for or against, try a bit harder to conceal your actions.

We can always count on you to bash Texas. I'm okay with it because at this point I think it's an honest to god OCD issue.

Right?! That guy is clinically obsessed with Texas. I just don't think he's got all the cheese left on his enchilada.

so??? tell me, what exactly is the point of releasing the names and addresses of those that signed the petition besides harassing, embarrassing and intimidating them?

if it was an anti-gay group that did that to some gay rights supporters that signed a petition, folks would be ready to pull the victim card talking about "this information could be used against them for harassment, discrimination, possible victimization and etc". same thing. there's ways to fight battles and this surely isn't one of them.

On a personal note: I don't have as much respect for people that try to destroy my life. Once you come at me, be prepared for the absolute worst.

Anyway, this was the point of posting their names online...

Khous Houston s city secretary pores through almost 5,200 pages of petitions signed by opponents of Mayor Annise Parker s equal rights ordinance, supporters have adopted an interesting tactic: posting all of the signed petitions on the Internet, inviting citizens to pore through the paperwork and search for evidence of voter fraud.

Was your name placed on the petition without your permission? asks a headline on the homepage at heropetition.com.

The website claims it has found evidence that the petitions bear names of some voters who didn't actually offer their signatures. It also advises people who discover their names have been falsely placed on the petition to sign an affidavit and send it to the city secretary s office.

There is documented evidence of deliberate voter fraud that may actually put petition signers at risk of criminal prosecution ... the website says.

Bullshit, I am not clinically obsessed with that hot, humid, featureless shithole known as the state of Texas. I am just stating the true fact that any right wing or gay bashing thing that comes out of the lone star shithole doesn't surprise me one bit. I used to live in Texas for about ten years so I am quite familiar with that state's ultra conservative backwardness. It appears that Texas hasn't changed one iota since I left but I am not surprised. Its a given.
