Given that profits overall keep going up, it's kind of pointless to claim anything's killing Hollywood. Every industry fluctuates a bit.

    You're right.

They usually break even (even more than that) from ticket sales. So when it comes to selling DVDs/BluRays, they're in unthinkable amounts of profit.

Victim blaming in general is a nasty ideology, it's only exception is with Hollywood prices. Seriously, if they didn't charge such extortionate prices: £19.99, £29.99 for DVDs/BluRays, perhaps they'd get less illegal downloads.

Hollywood is also "killing itself" because the sheer amount of utter wank they manage to churn out is astonishing.

I think Hollywood is killing itself when it comes to creativity. I mean, when was the last time an original story became a box office succes? Avatar? Avatar was basically Pocahontas so it doesn't really count. Nowadays, everthing is either a ton of CGI or something based on a book or video game.

seems like all the good talent is doing TV for AMC, HBO, FX, etc leaving the inbred movie industry to do schlock garbage
