    Hello all,

We've all witnessed the new poker trend that came up like a year ago... If not longer. I was also a victim... My brother taught me and now I like it a lot.
I go to a live tournement every friday with buyin 10 euros. not bad its fun and i win sometimes. BUT the problem starts here. I'm a student and I also play poker online a lot... More than is good for me. I have to live from like 300 euro in a month and I think i spend like 130 of that to online poker. the problem is that when I win I dont stop. I go on till i lost it all again... I know it sounds addicted but I dont think I am. I also know that denying u have a problem is the first symptom of addiction but I REALLY don''t think I have an addiction. I do think I spend too much money on it. I will have to control myself....
Any1 of u have advice, or have experiences like me?

I've known a gambling addict who lost everything. You're one. Get help now before it gets worse.

This line in itself should be setting off alarm bells in your head:
"the problem is that when I win I dont stop. I go on till i lost it all again".

From what you describe you are addicted to it. from a financial perspective you are committing nearly half your monthly cashflow to it, that should raise in your own mind the potential for negative impacts in your life, you need to get this under control before it becomes a life long habit, its not about the money, its about the behaviour, my father recently passed away and left a six-figure gambling debt behind, this was completely unknown until after his passing, fortunately it wont dramatically impact my mother's future but it definitely has changed all of our opinions of him and tarnished his memory. This type of activity impacts everyone around you, seek help.

check out gabor mate's book http://www.drgabormate.com/ghosts.php. in an interview, i remember him mentioning that stress of some sort is a single largest contributing factor for addictive behaviour.

Try playing without the money. Or, play for food items or such. I'll raise you a stick of gum on it.

Zim, addiction is when you go and show up to a booty call, even if you don't have wheels or money to pay for the cab. icon_twisted.gif

    hmm ok thanks...
I know it really looks like i have a problem when I read my own story but it really DOESNT feel like it... Very strange. And i really like to play poker I dont WANT to stop because its so much fun to play. Though if I dont play for money I dont like the game. It should be about something,I like the excitement... The feeling that u call a bluffer, or when u bluff some1 out of a big pot... It just feels really good... Blegh I do sound like an addicted person icon_razz.gif Though I looked it up a few times but it sais your school, social contacts and work should suffer because of it but in my case it doesnt.... My friends like poker too and also without playing poker I still hang out with them quite much. I dont lie about money and my parents do know I gamble online... I passed all my exams on University and work is just as always...

    Hmm difficult. Well thanks anyway

Gambling is so addicting. OMG! I have no idea why... I went to Vegas a few months ago and just blew a bunch of money.
