A DirectTV Annoyance

One would think that DirectTV was getting money from TV producers, rather than paying them. One can program shows to start recording a minute or more early or end a minute or more late, but they won't allow one to program recording to start a minute late or end a minute early - Apparently they don't want you to miss any commercials that you are paying them to be able to avoid in the first place.

My greatest annoyance with Direct TV is that they incessantly send me advertising material. I have a roof-top antenna with provides perfect reception on many channels and I have no intention of paying to receive TV signals.

If it ever becomes impossible to have TV free, I will stop watching TV. Once I did without TV for several years after my set failed and I can do it again. It's bad enough to have interruptions for irritating commercials aimed at people who failed to graduate from grade school, but having to pay to watch such commercials would be completely unacceptable.

    Welcome to the new normal.

I suspect your DirecTV box knows exactly what time it is, as that has been part of their signal data since the beginning. Whether the source is sticking to their schedule when a previous show runs long...

I extended the middle finger to all providers. Have iTunes, Hulu+, and rabbit ears. If I had any more programming I wouldn't go to the gym.

I refuse to pay for a service that forces commercials, and I also don't watch free stuff with commercials. That said, I haven't subscribed to cable TV or dish in my entire life. My TV is hooked up via HDMI from my laptop, where I watch Youtube and Netflix. That's the extent of my TV watching, cause anything else is loaded with ads and commercials.
