NYT: You found fellow runners on Facebook and felt like you’d found a team. But running with others, as you soon learned, can have its downsides.
Some partners won’t want to talk when you run. You, may be of a type that needs to carry on a conversation from the minute you start running to the minute you stop. The chitchat helps you forget the misery of the task at hand. But more than that, when you run alone, your mind will bully you into slowing down or stopping. When you run with other people, your mind won’t dare speak up – and you wind up running longer and faster than when you run alone.
The problem: others are faster than you.
