So maybe its because i dumped all of my social networking apps for a few months or something, but I'm noticing an increase in the number of guys who apparently have no idea what the point of a profile pic is. Nevermind the scores of landscapes and cat pics, I'm talking about the ones who have profile pics that LITERALLY make you want to cringe and run away. Like the face pics that are so depressing and sad or the ones that look like they were snapped of old 35mm prints. Come on guys! Make an effort! I'm not saying you need a full photo crew and lighting/makeup to look your best, but at least put some effort into it, especially if you're looking for dates icon_rolleyes.gif

My profile pic would definitely make you cringe and run away if you were the one on that bicycle. icon_cool.gif

My favorite ones are the screenshots of pics that are supposedly of them. icon_lol.gif

pazzy saidsome guys just aren't photogeneic or good looking. i'm one of them... constructing a profile takes work. used to be good with constructing a profile on myspace way back but it got real silly. came off looking like a clown and a crazy nutjob especially with the background music which would be the price is right, a rap song or a song that i liked which would make people go wtf. that's why i don't care about constructing a profile or taking pictures..

however, i do plan on buying a skimask, looking mad as hell. contemplating about buying a rainbow or the plain black one. also going to buy some army fatigue clothes.. icon_cool.gif that shit looks cool.

I'm not talking photogenetics here, i get that and i can see past them (lord knows i look like unholy sh!t in some of my picsthatwillneverseethelightofday). I'm talking someone who literally doesn't even take the time to try, just snaps a pic like they rolled out of bed 2 seconds ago, just as groggy (no one is actually that freakin' adorable when they wake up, if you think they are then its because they got up five minutes earlier to primp for you). Seriously, the kind that makes you frown and think to yourself "What exactly am I supposed to be getting from this pic? That you're depressed and self-loathing?"

or the ones of themselves obviously younger by the 70s or 80s hair. There are guys who just happen to have those pics alongside their currents too, which is cool, but to have them as your primary pic? faaaaaake

hopefully you're referring to someone other than myself because you really don't want me to go after the sunglasses you're apparently wearing while driving with temples so wide they could hide a rampaging elephant

blurry distant pictures are my friends. but i am also not doing any self-marketing, so not that concerned about it. If you're going to like me, it will not be for my looks.

The ones that I wonder about are the selfies that have the most god-awful mess in the background. If you're going to do a selfie, I'd think you'd give some consideration of what else will be in the frame. Guess that sounds pretty gay....

If it's blurred in real life, then yes.

There is that infamous one with the dookie in the toilet. I never got the bathroom selfie... you don't have any other mirrors?

i see what you're saying but you can't trust a profile pic or a profile and use either to assess somebody. just because someone is smiling in their pictures, shows themselves at some water park with a bunch of people smiling around them that are "supposedly" their friends, write or put whatever in their profiles and etc doesn't mean that they are what they try to put across in their pictures or what they write in their profiles. there's a lot of guys that like to dupe people because the real them makes people run away from them. same thing with this web forum. most people here act differently in real life. a lot of it is people placing their own perceptions of what they want to believe or think how somebody is based off the bits and pieces that whoever they're looking at throws at them.

like what you said, it's an art but more so of how to trick somebody into believing something that may or may not be true. a lot of people do that on the internet. so to me, it doesn't matter whether a guy is smiling or not because a profile pic can only say so much. you can't trust people.

You're absolutely correct on all accounts. For example, I make a definite effort to appear cheerful and outgoing in my pics because that is how I wish to be perceived. I just wonder how people who post dreary photos of themselves wish to be perceived. It the classic "lonely sad guy in a bar" argument. Nobody is going to take pity on you and come be your friend if you've got a cloud over your head all the time.

Yeah I always wonder about those profile pics too. Maybe they're trying to be "authentic" or something by "not caring" about their material appearance.

Some guys are almost too good at photography though. But that's preferable to not caring imo because at least they are giving a good impression, and you can usually tell when a photo is overly stylized.

I still don't know how to take a good selfie of myself icon_confused.gif Working on it...

Anyhoo, I used to be on this Indian gay site where 70% people used to have their dicks/asses as profile pics so it feels good to at least see so many 'faces' here on RJ icon_smile.gif
