It's Manchester pride the biggest pride in England this weekend which I plan to go to and I am ATM just a bit worried about how am I gonna look. As I have got to look my best as in a solely gay environment I feel that I have to compete with other gay men to get attention.

Anyone feel this way in a gay environment seeing as gay culture is very shallow and looks-orientated

Nope, not a bit. I have always gone as plain old me. But you're much younger, so I suppose that's important to you at the moment. But I can assure you that if you don't make appearance important, then it's NOT important. I just go to have a good time, which I do.

There's nothing wrong with wanting to look your best but your motivation for it is creepy and shallow. You need help!

You're choosing to place yourself in these situations so I really don't feel sorry for you. It's like going to the beach and complaining of sand in your shoes.

So basically you're like every person on Planet Earth who goes to the beach competing for attention instead of going, say, solely to enjoy the surf, sun and sand. I wouldn't worry; at least you're not going to New York or Sobe Pride, or trying out that new Versace swimsuit on the Côte d'Azur. It's Manchester for chrissake.

It is probably more about accepting yourself as who you are and what you have done with yourself, physically and mentally.
As you age, you will realize that in the long run, no one really is looking at you and judging you, if they are it doesn't matter anyway, it is only about how you feel inside about your self and what kind of person you are.
Have fun at the event, and focus only on yourself, friends, and enjoying your self with them.

OP, in response to your question, yeah I think the experience you are describing is pretty common one that a many if not most gays experience at scene events. Hope you have a good time. My advice is to enjoy yourself but to focus in general on finding friends and scenes that are less stressful.

Pathetic too that if a white guy posted the same comment as you, there would be no racial jabs from the members of RJ.

You can stop propagating/continuing this mentality by stop worrying about it.
    Just go and have fun.
