I'm from the UK and in gym changing rooms and from school never seen anyone wearing a jock strap. Boxers are most commonly worn or Calvin Klein briefs.

The image (and fantasy icon_biggrin.gif) I have though of sports mad Americans is of athletic guys in jock straps.

But I've heard that not many guys wear them nowadays. Is that true where you live?

Is it because you have a jock strap fetish? There are quite a few guys pictured in jock straps on this site because they look damn sexy but I was just wondering whether guys in general wear jock straps in the US or wherever?

No, it's because I have a jock fetish. I have their mouths duct taped, too, cause they just wouldn't STFU as I was strapping them to the wall.

I see very few guys wearing jocks at my south Florida gym. I wear one myself (but then I'm old), and a few days ago started another thread about buying a new one.

    http://www.realjock.com/gayforums/3891820/

The jock was invented in the US about 130 years ago, originally for the new bicycling fad, so perhaps why it was more widespread over here. They were mandatory in gym classes when I was a kid, and we'd have jock strap inspections to make sure we were wearing one when we came out of the locker room into the gymnasium. You slid your gym shorts waistband down, all of us standing in a row, and stretched out a jock leg strap to show the coach. A kind of weird parody of a military salute as he walked past.

There were also swimming jocks, with a more slender waistband. Because the square-cut swim trunks of that period had no liners, and were so brief your dick would hang down past the leg opening without wearing something underneath.

So that a jock was an essential item in the wardrobe of most men. Today it's an exception. And I think to some now considered a "gay" item.

I guess with underwear being made of lycra and the suchlike it provides good enough support so a jock strap isn't needed. Also because the jock strap shows off a naked butt a lot of straight guys, particularly, are self conscious and think by wearing one they look like they are trying to attract attention.

I wear a jockstrap when working out, doing yard work, sometimes even to work if I have to lift.
They were standard gear for PE.
I still like th e support they give.
Certainly not as popular but easy to find (WalMart, Sports Authority, a few sporting good stores still around and online International jock/ International Male).

There are too many alternatives to jockstraps - and Y-front Fruit-of-the-Looms - these days. I've rarely noticed either in a locker room. In my Long Island suburb men mostly wear colored fitted designer boxer briefs or boxers with a smattering in bikini underwear and maybe thongs (I have a faint recollection). I think the fancy colored International Male-style fetish wear jockstraps are used strictly for fetish wear. Outside of, say, Weho of course.

The leather bar here had a jock strap night if that is what you are into. Not into it personally.
