Why Does Invective 'Throw Like a Girl" Hurt So Much?

NYT: In schoolyards and streets, for as long as most of us can remember, “You throw like a little girl!” has been a common insult, almost always directed at a male.

The act of throwing is an aggressive one, a projecting outward — like shooting an arrow from a bow or a bullet from a gun — or martial, like throwing a punch. None of these characteristics are even remotely associated in our culture with the “feminine.”

Is this why many gay men desire 'straight acting' so as to disassociate with 'throwing like a girl'?

Pazzy, just because you don't like to read or think, some of us do and both woodsmen and metta8 bring interesting ideas and articles to the conversation. Go bitch elsewhere. These threads require some thought beyond your capacity.

What you said is untrue pazzy. This particular topic is general so I put it here. It is not a news reporting. Don't throw tantrum like a girl.

I have one newspaper that comes to my home. That is the New York Times. It is a preeminent newspaper of our country recording our daily history. I choose articles and opinions that have the zeitgeist to elevate RJ from the sex threads. That is what I am doing. This should not hurt you. You do have means to ignore at your fingertips.

Am not sure what you mean by the "obvious". If you are not hurt, you should proceed your merry way.

I use the NYT because it takes pain to be factual. Facts should triumph over opinions. For example, in another thread, you were complaining that reported job growth was illusory because you didn't see any evidence of it. I replied to you posting the number of jobs and their labor classifications involved in the job growth. These facts were reported by the NYT.

Some people in this country and our enemies abroad profit from our ignorance. Don't be.

    Quick answer:

Yes. Sexism exists. In a society that historically places men on top, calling a man anything female equates with calling him "less than".

Many men are threatened or amused by men who present fem because the idea of rejecting your male privilege messes with their understanding of how the world works. This is true regardless of sexual orientation (see also 9,652 "Masc only", "straight-acting" threads since the Internet was invented... and counting!)

These same men are often threatened by women who claim privilege historically reserved for men through dress which doesn't present them as objects for the male gaze, assertive behavior especially in the workplace, etc.

    Not really news.

This is an interesting NYT article. As for the Times recipe stuff (not sure how a NYT recipe is more factual than a NY Post one, but what ev), if I wanted a recipe for pastried sweetbreads with a truffle foie gras glaze I'd use google. And I wouldn't because it'd be too fattening anyway.

Metta often posts interesting gay related articles but lately lots is generic stuff anyone can get off the MSN homepage, and I don't see the point of cluttering up the forums with those, unless most gays only get their news on gay sex sites (and if so, a link to a NYT article proving such would be much appreciated).

One can hide spamming Facebook friends from one's newsfeed, so if anyone really has a problem skipping past an article link thread can't they just put frequently posting members on "ignore" and voila! Problem solved? I'd have put woodsmen and Metta on ignore ages ago except they do put out the occasional gem, and I'd hate to lose those. I wish both would be more selective - less is more. With the Facebook friends I hide at least I can revisit their pages to see if I missed anything of substance (usually not).

Was what I just wrote the post equivalent of throwing like a girl?

silver_phoenix saidMen are physicality superior to women, just take a look at whose doing the heavy lifting at the gym.icon_wink.gif

Of course there are angry mannish lesbians like the Deconstructionist Ivory Tower academic fraud Judith Butler ( worshipped by 'progressives' ) claiming that gender is only a social construct, it is "performative" and there is no real difference between males and females.icon_rolleyes.gif

Of course a mannish lesbian would try to spin it that way.icon_lol.gif

I kind of like Judith Butler :s
She kinda goes too far with the trans surgery initiative think. I do agree with criticism of her work being overly symbolic and not affecting change icon_sad.gif
Due to the ivory tower sentiment's as well as a lacking of recognition for why performative behaviors originate and/or function.

Performative Gender theory is however from observation - accurate and should not be devalued. :s lesbo or not.
