Is it supposed to hurt?

    Hello fellow RealJocks:

I recently started taking krav maga classes. It's loads of fun, but you have to wear groin protection, which I have never done before. Today I took a kick between the legs. The cup helped, but it still hurt. This is kind of embarrassing to ask, but is it supposed to hurt? I've never done a sport that requires groin protection before, and I want to make sure I'm wearing it right. Any thoughts are appreciated.

    Yours in soreness,

yeah.... getting kicked in the crotch even with a cup will hurt. just imagine if you weren't wearing it, you'd probably still have your head between your knees crying feeling like you are going to throw up.

A kick anywhere is going to hurt, especially in the soft bits.

Thanks for the replies. I actually was serious; I've never done this before and had the fantasy that I could get kicked in the balls with no pain.

I've worn a cup for contact sports. And boys once had to wear them for Little League baseball (not sure if done anymore), and I believe many youth soccer leagues still recommend them in the US.

A cup does not make your balls 100% impervious to hits. A stronger impact can still hurt. A cup correctly sized and worn properly will usually prevent serious permanent sports injury, however, even if not eliminate all pain. Cups work well enough for this intended purpose.

I'm not sure how effective a sports cup can be against something as violent as Krav Maga military combat techniques. What do the instructors wear and recommend?

Except for more recently, I have played baseball all my life. I played every position but when I was in little league, Catching, Pitching and Short Stop were my main positions.

I would wear a jock strap with a cup in it no matter what position I played or I would just wear the cup in my underwear. I do remember having balls fowled into me as a catcher and it still hurting. The shapes of the cups have changed since then, so my last cup actually went around my entire package wear as my older ones more or less sat on top of everything.

Yes, it is suppose to hurt. That is nature's way of saying:

DON'T LET THAT SHIT HAPPEN AGAIN!

I'll do my best to be gentle and go slow, but I'm not going to lie to you: it's going to hurt like hell at first, but then before you know it, what at first feels like more pain than you thought you could ever bear turns into a pleasure unlike anything you've ever experienced - I promise!

Oh, wait - what are we talking about here? I probably should go back and read the entire OP...

Six5Denver, no one's going to believe me when I say this, but when I first posted I was oblivious to the innuendo in the subject line. That's what happens when I post late at night. icon_redface.gif

Yep, I recently took up kick boxing, and guess what got hit the first.

I always wear a hard cup in a tight jocky short or jock strap.
