ok so this is a question in which i feel very strongly about the response. While i do believe men should have hair in their armpits, I dont believe it should be longer than say a half of an inch. There is nothing grosser to me than a guy with 4 inch long pit hair. Eww stinky and it shows u dont groom yourlself.

Poor you, life must be so difficult...

I like my men to be them selfs... how they keep there hair, how they groom, is all good to me, as long as they are clean and don't stink its all good.

Depends on the guy for me. Some guys look great with shaved armpits, others with a dark, thick patch of hair.

Smell is a different story, but Nick haven't you heard of deodorant/antipersperants?

It astonishes me that even some gay men have no concept of personal grooming. I suppose trailer trash encompasses all sexual orientations.

And if the counter argument is that men are supposed to be "natural" then lets also dispense with trimming fingernails & toenails, cutting hair, shaving or trimming the beard, etc. Oh, and lets forget about soap & deodorant, too, since those aren't natural either, but human inventions that alter the way we really are.

And so I agree with you, that some men go around only "half-groomed" and gross-looking, in this and other ways. At the same time it does have advantages, in that one isn't misled about what quality of person they actually are, so they can be avoided.

Gosh. We need to diversify our topics.

In the last year, I know armpit hair has been a topic a few times.

    Oh, well.

Here's a link for armpit hair folks, right here on Real Jock.

TheGuyNextDoor saidOK,,, so I gotta ask,,, Who here is trimming their underarm hair that is not in a bodybuilding competition ? Just curious. I see guys like myself at the gym in sleeveless work out shirts and I have to confess that I never really noticed a guys underarm hair.... No matter if he's doing a Lat pull down or cables, bench etc. Humm,,,,,, I'm kinda a detail guy in my job, but this one has never really occurred to me.
I'm exactly the same, I've never noticed it, I mean, its not something I intentionally go looking for...

The length of body hair varies with the individual, and can also change with age, often becoming longer later in life. Many men don't have to trim at all, the armpit hair being naturally short and not obtrusive that anyone would especially notice it.

I was that way until about my late 40s, and then it just went on a growing spree. When hair started sticking out my T-shirt sleeves I knew I had to trim a little.

I keep it about the length that other men usually have, not super short or shaven. But looking like I have a ponytail under each arm is not acceptable to me.

i prefer the trimmed look to wild or shaved, honestly. manscaping is your friend. but that's a very distinct aesthetic that's been ground into me from performing in theatres and clubs. nothing more heinous than a dancer doing an arm gesture and hair pulling your eyes away from the shape. i prefer to not see the hair if your arms are down at your sides. it's totally fine to unleash the dragon when you raise your arms to point the guns, but otherwise keep the llamas and yaks to yourself.

So are there guys out there that use a ruler to trim their arm pit hair down to 1/2 inch?

I trim mine down to the skin with electric clippers. I really don't care what other people think. I don't do it for aesthetics. It's really uncomfortable having all that hair while I run or workout. Arm pit hair just attracts sweat like a sponge.

oh, one more point: it can get yanked when it's too long!! i got a reminder this weekend that it was time to get the lawnmower out again when people kept grabbing my armpit hair when they were trying to tip me in my armbands. OUCH!

lilTanker saidI'm wondering now what sort of underarm hair we are talking about... we talking chewbacca here?

In my case, yes. But only in the last 10 years. As I said above, untrimmed it will poke out my T-shirt sleeves, something that never happened when I was younger. But then I never had hair on my back, either, until about 45, and now that's getting really out of control, too.

Since I already cut my own hair on my head, the solution to my armpits is easy: a couple of passes with the electric trimmer using a 3/4" comb. It doesn't take 30 seconds, every 2 weeks or so when I give myself a haircut.
