That was awful. Good on him for not backing down and standing up for himself. I hope he gets far away from their ignorance and finds love and acceptance and safety elsewhere. His parents are really going to regret what they did one day whether they admit it or not.

That is so sad and must have been really frightening to experience this from your own family.
His own family actually ganged up on him just for being different, he was singled out by his family!

My heart breaks for this poor guy.
They are pinning him down in violence and even in the midst of that, it is them asking what's wrong with him.

southern evangelist Baptist no doubt. asshats!!
here is an open letter to these "parents" from a gay dad.
what really grinds my gears is there are folks out there who openly support what these "parents" said and did.

I come from a Christian family, I know what the believe and respect that, if I have to tell them I am gay at least I will take an attitude that this guy does not have....you should know how to tell people things rather than prove you are right about your nature that it is not a choice, I would try to be a bit humble and apologise to my family if I hurt them, and let them know in a more less selfish way that I cannot change what I am....just my point of view

you are entitled to your opinion. HOWEVER, one should never have to apologize/apologise for who they are. I certainly hope you do not condone the verbal and physical abuse this young man received. FROM HIS "PARENTS", NO LESS. if you do, you have bigger issues to deal with my friend.

Well the guy went in with a combative attitude and his parents reciprocated. But of course, their mentality about homosexuality is that it is something to be hated, so instead of matching his attitude, they went all out and beat him.

I do feel sorry for the guy. No one deserves that kind of treatment from their parents. But I can't say that I find this shocking at all. Was he expecting to speak to them that way and have them agree with him? He was likely pushing their buttons because he knew they would reject him and wanted to make a scene for the camera. But perhaps he got more than he was expecting.

Southern Baptists, it figures. They are among the most ignorant and backward thinking. Let me guess this violent family incident occurred in a conservative, under educated southern state. This family's reaction would probably have not been violent or negative if it weren't for the ancient fairy tales known as religious beliefs that continue to poison the air with all that nonsensical horseshit.

This is the thing that bothers me, that you have to believe in something meaning a supernatural, paranoia dogma. Why is believing in these ancient fairy tales considered so vital to success in lifeicon_question.gif

This is just terrible. How can a mother be so disrespectful to her own child? Of course he reacted angrily to her statements, but could you or I remain calm and normal if the things she said were directed at you? She has a Southern accent, so she's probably one of those evangelicals/fundamentalists. Her words mouth the same ones said by those types.
