Mexican State of Coahuila Legalizes Same-Sex Marriage

"Yesterday, over the objections of the Roman Catholic Church, the state legislature in Coahuila passed a marriage equality bill into law by a vote of 19-1 (some reports say 19-3). Coahuila becomes the second state in Mexico to allow same-sex couples to wed and the first to do so through legislative action.

Coahuila is one of three Mexican states that border the U.S. state of Texas."

    ...

"The BBC report further states that in addition to Mexico City, same-sex marriages are also taking place in the southern state of Quintana Roo, where the marriage law does not contain gender-exclusive language."

This is awesome news. Since Coahuila shares a state line with Texas, that could help pressure the idiot fools in the Austin statehouse to change their backward, conservative ways and embrace gay marriage as the law of the land. I am glad that the Roman Catholic Church was totally ignored on this issue. Who will be the next state in Mexico to legalize gay marriage through legislationicon_question.gif

My Sexican man tells me there are many states in Mexico that allow same sex marriage. He even told the that it is even legal in some cities even though the state the city is in doesn't allow it. Not sure if that's true. Something may have gotten lost in translation.

    Thanks Again Metta,
I was in central México in late January of this year and I was so pleased to see some attitudes toward LGBT people start to change. Now this wonderful news regarding this Mexican state! Let's hope this is a trend that continues till all 31 Mexican states recognize same-sex marriage.

    Your Sexican is correct...

Hummmmmm. I wonder if he was hinting at something? Last night he was toying with our last names. You know - coupling each first name with the other's last name, hyphenating, etc.

This means that the overwhelming majority of Mexico permits and recognizes gay marriage as the law of the land. The US has some major work cut out for it.
